changing the plugs on the mark and was wondering what type they put in, oem. The plugs i got out is a champion rs14yc6. Randomly gapped between .53-.60.

Also, The torque wrench i have is a half inch and i dont have a 1/2" deepsocket that will fit the plug. I used a 12" and socket ext and put them in "hand tight". Then tightned them till they were snug. Not moving in, not moving out with alittle force.

Am i ok, i'm scared :q:q:q:qless with the aluminum heads on both this and my marquis.
I'd have to say though, this is probably the easiest car to do plugs on minus my first car, a cavalier 4 cyl..lol..

searched abit and think they came with motorcraft....duh...Am i correct.

got em all in but i lost my dam di-electric grease for the drivers side....arrrrgggggg! Been looking for it for 15min.

If you run plats/double plats/ etc you really can't gap them without damaging the tip of the plug.

Copper is another story...

Without a 3/8" inch pound torque wrench you won't be able to accurately torque the plugs... I would just use a regular ratchet but hold way upon it, 15ftlbs isn't much.

I'm running the al 764's. And i found the dam grease under the plastic "lincoln mark viii" panel cover. What a pain. Dont notice much of a diff but its good knowing that the plugs are fresh now.

How long do the coppers last? I've heard anywere from 15-30k. I only drive it in the summer so i should get 5 years out of them.

I change my copper plugs about once a year - much less than 15K miles - but mostly to keep them fresh for racing.

What would be a reasonable amount of miles if just driving it like a sane person?

If it is 15 i could still get 3 years out of em.idk

I just changed my truck ones after 35k with coppers... they wee only a little out of spec and it ran fine...

i know motorcraft are the best for these motors i used them in my 94 but i have a 97would that make a difference?

i always use autolite 764's, you cant beat the price and they last quite awhile. i just put fresh ones in my 93, first plug change since i bought it last year, it still ran good, but i had put bad gas in my car so after i burned all the bad gas out i changed the fuel filter, the oil, air cleaner and plugs, i cant be sure but i pulled motorcraft plugs out that looked like they have been in since 93 lol, 117,000 i figured what the hell, might as well change them even if it did run fine lol, i'm sure the motor was happier, only thing i did notice was i went from a 17.6 city avg to 21 city avg, my gas mileage has been kick ass!!
