painting chrome parts

Try http://www.paintscratch.com/. They guarantee a color match; they even send you a test piece to paint before you spray the part so you can check the match. IIRC, when I painted my Sirius antenna back in the day, I bought everything in a kit from them, including the paint, adhesion promoter with flex additive, clearcoat, and a bottle of fluid (maybe a polish for sanding the color coat, I don't recall).

already got the proper paint from Canadian tire thanks anyway

Then you wont promote adhesion...

^ha^

what are they calling these pieces at the salvage yards?
i need a black one for the right side front bumper on a 2005
i have a black one for the left side rear if someone needs one

someone said it above but you def have to remove the bumper to remove them. if someone needs pictures let me know bc one of mine is still torn off and i have the hardware.. theres two diff types of fasteners/clips holding them in. the front and rear pieces are not interchangeable, tho they appear to be. the contour of the pieces is slightly different.

Steps (just what I did)
1. Sand (400,600,800 grit)
2. Clean
3. Adhesion promoter (2-3 coats)
4. Primer (3-4 coats)
5. Wet sand (1000 grit)
6. Paint (3-6 coats, I use duplicolor colormatch from the parts store)
7. Wet sand again (1500 grit)
8. Clear (3-6 coats)

why wet sand? i'm guessing its to get bumps and scratches out?

You have to sand the color coat or it won't shine. Also, the place I linked sells adhesion promoter with the flex additive that you need for plastic parts.

i thought the clear coat will make the paint shine

Seriously man, google how to paint plastic chrome or something similar

Just follow.the steps given by people who have done it, or f it up by skipping steps.

You know, I could've sworn that the instructions I got fom PaintScratch said to wet sand after laying down the color coat, but I can't find them now (it has oly been six years...). Their current instructions ( http://www.paintscratch.com/touch-up-paint-directions/ ) don't include that step, so I can't swear to it now...

Edit: Here's the link to the spraycan instructions:
http://www.paintscratch.com/touch-up-paint-directions/spraycan.htm
It mentions sanding between color coats, but not after the final color coat.

Wet sanding takes away the orange peel and makes the paint look smooth

done only problem i had was when i pulled off the tape some of the paint on the trim came off with it very small amount you can only see if you look closely
