My wife gets home this afternoon in my 93 & she shows me 2 FOR SALE signs she taped on the car! I ofcourse FLIPPED OUT! Yes, the plan was/is to sell my 93 to obtain the cash to prep & paint the black 97 but there are things I want to transfer from one car to the other before selling the car including my CobraStar logo's, wheels & exhaust. My wife immediately tells me I better not dare ruin the black 97 by making it "sporty".
She has no car so she wants to have it for herself. She wants it as classy as the prairie tan & she said its going to be HER car! :eek:

So here's the couple questions I need to ask my fellow Mark buddies. (Please be honest, save the sarcasm for other threads)

#1. Am I being selfish? I know she deserves a car, she's a great woman but I've wanted a black/black Gen II since I've owned my Mark. My plan was for her to drive the black/black but I at least wanted to install the exhaust, wheels, CobraStar logos & gauges on the car.

#2. Should I keep my 93 & EVER-SO-SLOWLY save up to paint the black 97 for my wife? This way everyone is happy?

#3. Another option is to find someone willing to trade their small SUV/blazer/Jimmy/Explorer for my 93 Mark. She likes mid size SUV's

I'm not a spoiled person but for the last 10 years or so I've always had a toy, whether its a boat, waverunner or sport's car. I don't consider my prairie tan a toy. It's our "fancy lookin" going out car. I think I'm being selfish & want the best of both worlds. Maybe it's just me.


Any ideas?

You love your wife. So, you really haven't much of a problem. Your situation is easy. Start dreaming of ways to fix up the PT. Besides, it will probably go better with the grey hair.
 
Do what ever makes wifey happy, cuz at the end of the day do u want to be happy enough that she won't question your auto decisions that you will make later on.
 
Don't know how I'll be able to own all 3 though. I misled you guys... NOT EVERYONE will be happy if I choose #2 as my route to go. My in-laws & my own family will be fuming mad! I get to own all the cars I want & my wife doesn't get to own what she wants. Her family has been wanting me to sell my Marks for over 4 months now so she can buy an SUV with that money.

WOW! Something so simple yet I'm torn apart. :( Eventually I know what's going to happen if I want 2 Marks in my driveway! Give in to the "classy" look on both 97's & do away with my 93.
 
I've bought every girlfriend/wife I've had since I was 16 a car/truck.

I'm 45 and totally over it. Current gf has a TBird I gave her and I swear NO MORE! This time I mean it! lol

I've thought about this option. I just hate how she's not careful with ANY cars. This passed week I didn't tell her anything but every day she came home with 2, 3+ bird droppings on the 93. By Friday the car was full of bird crap. I asked her why she continued to park under the same tree if she was getting bird crap on the car, she said she didn't notice. :mad:

Well, this defeats the purpose of me buying another Mark. I should've just bought a small SUV for her. Then I just won't care what happens to it.
 
#2 girls never clean their cars, you just do it for her!
 
The way I figure it, its a rare car, hard to find parts for...if your chick isn't a car chick, then she's not. Find her something reliable with thick bump strips.
My alternate vehicle is a 5.0 AWD Mountaineer, handles well, fast for an SUV, 18 mpg, leather, moonroof..perfect "mom-mobile"
 
#2 as the only people that matter in the happiness equation is you and your wife. Accept she is not a car girl and keep it clean for her.

My wife is the same, she wants a nice car but will not do anything for it but drive it through acar wash. Just got her a nice Grand Prix GTP and all though I can do so many cool mods to it I am resisting as she has a nice stock reliable car and I do not worry about anything on it as it will not break because I did something to it.:D
 
Wives generally get what they want. That is why I dropped 25 grand on a vehicle I never would have considered this past Saturday, but it is what she wanted.

I once asked an old guy, wife or car? His answer; you can always sell a car. I'm lucky my wife loves her 95 MK for the last 14 years. I offered a new MKZ and she said no. Her last car was a 74 T-Bird for 21 years. She had to take the 98MK for a few days and said it made her drive too fast. Her 95's getting a makeover this summer and should keep her happy for another 15 years. Give the wife what she wants, you can get more parts for your car
 
#2 and the hell with what her family and your family say.

What happens is between you and your wife. Others can have opinions, but in the end, they don't matter.
 
I'd give the wife the PT and sell the 93, fix the 97 like YOU want it and tell the rest of the family to stfu about YOUR lives. This is why I'm glad I'm not married. If she wants to drive around with birdchit on a car, then let her wash it.

It seems to me that too much family is all up in your business more than they should be. Do you really need a "going out to eat car? No. Does or will the PT be as nice in the end as the black on black when it's done? Not IMO but that's just me. I do agree that the wife needs a car and "you" do not need two.

So, I don't know the life story about each family and all that but unless they pay bills for you, they should mind their own business and worry about their own car situation, not yours. Why is the PT so special to the point that she can't just drive that one? If she's not the type that cares about how a vehicle is treated, then maybe the 93 needs to be sold or traded for some type of SUV but with the going rate of these cars, it won't be much of one.

I would just set her free in the PT and sell the 93, fix the 97 up nicely with the money from the 93 and you both will have nice cars, except you'll have the sporty edition and leave it at that. If you need to go out to eat without exhaust sound and Cobra wheels, take her car, with birdchit all over it and maybe she'll start realizing how embarrassing it is to drive a nasty looking car. You have to show her how she treats cars. Don't say anything about what it looks like, let her notice it on her own. She will!

Now that is as honest and truthful as I can get. Whatever she ends up getting, take pics of it, all the way around so you can show her the before and after.

I am sooooooooooooo lucky my wife is a "car girl":D She loved the '97 when it was hers and I was driving my '96. Now she loves her Cobra convertible even more. She's the one who wanted the cherry bombs on both the Mark and the Cobra because she likes to hear the engine roar. She's a gearhead just like me and I love it!

As for what you should do, man, I just don't know. Just give her the '93 and keep the other two for yourself:D If she doesn't want it to be "sporty", just transfer what you want from the '93 to the BoB and make the '93 less "sporty" for her. I know you'll have to save to get the BoB painted, but it'll be worth it in the long run, IMO. Anyway, just a thought. Good luck to ya!
 
man if I were married I would never "give" a car I loved and put blood, sweat and tears into to my WIFE..I've seen how many women treat vehicles (not saying they are all the same) but if they don't care what kind of car they are driving then a Mark VIII certainly isn't the best choice for them..cause then you will be stuck fixing anything that goes wrong with it and slowly watching it turn to sh*t as she drives it..

my mom is good example..she is a neat freak when it comes to her home, and she actually is very good at keeping the inside of her vehicles clean..but man she just doesn't understand the concept of being careful where you park..I've told her so many times how to find good parking spots and how to position the vehicle so it doesn't get door dinged, but she just doesn't get it...hence why I NEVER let anyone else drive my car..it's much easier to be mad at myself if something happens while I'm driving, than be mad at someone else if they f*ck it up.

If it were me, sell the 93 after taking off everything you want and transfer wheels, exhaust and whatever to the 97, wait a while and save money for paint, and just get her a car that she can drive that's reliable and don't worry about what happens to it cosmetically.
 
It's just a car thats what insurance is for and last of all make the WIFE HAPPY!!!!!!!!!!!! Tell the family that it's your life if they want to be a part of it then they need to let you live it.

Side note what ever happened to your truck?
 
So do you think you would be OK with her mistreating the black once you have invested time and money into fixing it back up. Face it man she is not going to take care of whatever she is driving. Let her drive the tan car and just deal with it, its a car or sell it and buy her something she wants. Keep a daily driver for each of you and one toy/spare car any more than that and it gets hard to keep up with everything anyway.
