My fuel pump just went out on my '93 MKlll and the dealer wants $1400. to replace it!? Is there something I am missing here? Is there a cheaper or better pump out there? HELP!!

Don't have the dealer do it? The repair should be under 1000. If you had the means to do it yourself it'd cost <200.

Check out craigslist for mechanics looking for side jobs and call up area shops to get estimates..

Okay where do I get a walbro 255 fuel pump and does anyone have a part #?

Look on ebay for a walbro fuel pump, they usually can run between $80-150. Look on CL for a cheap mechanic. The mechanic I found on craigslist can put a fuel pump in for $100. It should be no more than $300 parts and labor to do the fuel pump.

$1400????, they can shove that fuel pump up their ass.

found one for $119. Now again are they all the same or do I need a specific part #?

Do the job yourself. It's not that hard. I did the pump on my old '96 and aside from the thing having a FULL tank of gas, it was a pie job. Don't pay somebody to do something that you can do in an hour in your own driveway with a pair of ramps, a floor jack, and some simple hand tools.:D

Lol I got took for 150 to wire a new harness from the alternate to the fuse box. :q:q:q:qing crooks everywhere.

Is there a performance advantage with the walbro; however slight? Will this affect my milage?

Larger pump supplies mnore fuel. If the car has no other mods chances are you will loose a couple tenths worth of MPG. The computer and FPR will regulate it pretty well to minimize and mileage loss though.

As for replacement it takes me two hours when I take my sweet time. Pumps are on ebay all the time for under $50 and work fine. Sappers black Mark ran on one for quite some time before developing and unrelated fuel problem. The fuel pump in my old blown Mark was under $80 and two years latter that car will still smoke most "performance" cars on the road.

Dont let the dealer screw you. Ill do it for $250 with the pump included. I got a Walbro 255 sitting on the shelf right now.

I had a performance Mustang shop do mine for $200. I was not about to do it in 100 degree heat like Laser likes to do:D

Buy a BBK one, that what I did. 1400 is way too much to pay. Everytime I hear that price for this job I get really pissed off. It's worth doing it yourself.
