So I have a SCT X3 with a 91 octane tune written for the Mark Viii, when I use the 91 tune my alt only puts out 12.2 v at 70 and 11.8 at idle which makes the car do stupid things. Now if I return it to the stock tune the alt puts out 13.9 at all speeds. So I do the logical thing and run it with the stock tune till I can get this figured out. And I want to figure this out because with the tune the car is a beast! Any ideas as to what can be causing the oddity?

I've heard that some of the Reinhart tunes turn off the alt under WOT to save you a little power for acceleration, donno if maybe that part of your tune is incorrect...?

Remember that one time.... at band camp.... when I told you not to get an X3 cause they do weird stuff to our cars sometimes?
I was warned before I got into the tuning scene that the X3 shouldnt be used on our cars cause they have power problems or shift issues or fuel pump issues sometimes. Something to do with the newer series operating systems on a tuner that was never ment to be used on a Mark VIII.

I have never had the issues using X2s.

Xcal 2 was designed for 1996-2007 computers. Xcal3 was designed for 2008+ ECUs.

Thing is that not ALL Marks suffer from the problem with an X3 but I bet 90% do.

For the price I couldn't pass it up. I thought the firmware updates were mention to solve those issues. I think I'm going to call the tuner on Monday to try and resolve the issue that way. Laser now that you say something I do remember you saying that they can cause problems. It was an impulse buy off a guy from LOD. He had a 98 LSC also with no problems. He got it from blue oval chips.

Lonnie told me the X3 was fixed.....But that might explain some of the wierdness with my car....

If there's a way to affect the alternator in a tune, I've never seen it.

BTW, I use an X3 on both my LSC and my Cobra. :p

If anyone wants to sell an X3, just let me know.
