I was just thinking about this... since an LS can be had for next to nothing nowadays, it can be bought by a different demographic now. Younger kids, more interested in performance than who the car was originally developed for are now seeming to purchase more LS's. Granted, a lot of them get butchered by bad taste, but I was trying to find the silver lining.

Do you guys think that since now more kids have the LS as a viable option, that we could actually see a performance aftermarket now? Do you think this would create the demand needed?

Or am I being too hopeful...

Thoughts please.

Although seemingly it sounds like there could be a possibility of a market opening up, I still doubt it due to the complexity of the car's ECU etc.

I don't think so - way too hard to work on for an average DIYer. if you have to re-tune for every mod - and only SCT is available - it's all custom one-off.

Seems the new owners lean towards wheels and stereos more.

its not a model that's still continued ala civic or something, so that'll cut down your support, i wouldn't expect to see anything, and yea unforunately since most of our new prospects want RIIIIIIIMZZZZZZ and SUBZZZZ and show rather than go.. i wouldn't keer your fingers crossed -- and this is coming from the key demographic (young 20s single male...)

The Mark VIII has went through this already except it didn't have as much bling mods you LS guys have. Even though more of the younger crowd has Mark VIIIs now, you still don't see body kits for the car.(and no, I don't wish for more mods for the outside even though I am 19)I love my car as it is.

I think if somebody mass produced body kits they would sell. As long as they didnt cost thousands like the ones out do now. I would love a kit but its too expensive.

This is another reason why I am getting rid of my LS. I can have AWD, turbo and 400 AWHP for the price of the LS.

i'm 19 and have one but i have always liked lincolns since my dads 88 towncar with a 5.0 haha thats what i learned to drive on. Since then i've bought a couple mustangs and have a navigator and an ls. I'm glad i'm not like most kids and have trashy mismatched cars, people just have bad taste thats all. I wish there were some performance modifications but lincoln discontinued production which doesn't help it all. The potential is there but the backing is not.

i think that most people who buys LS's arent looking for the ricer mods, a simple set of wheels and tints, sometimes a grill is the most you will see on a LS. Most people that buy LS's know the history on lincolns they are powerful and comfortable. I am 25 and i have a LS and a Aviator, I bought a millenia then upgraded me and my wife, who was driving a cavalier.

There won't be any more aftermarket stuff than there is now.
The car's been out of production for almost 3 years
The motor's are already very efficient for their size.
On the 2nd Gen cars the exhaust is pretty well
header manifolds and true duals.
Too bad Ford didn't put something like a 4.6-5.0 liter
sized engine in the LS.

Lots of cars have been out of production and still get updated on the aftermarket till this day.

I just think its the fact that its not that compatible especially with today's aftermarket and the tuning issue.

All I know is it pisses me off seeing garbage for stuff like Neons and KIA's.

speaking for the younger generation {since im 17}, i can confirm that yes when a kid 16 or 17 get a car they do not care about performance but a nice set of 20's and some bang. but being a member of this website has swayed me to try and do a bit of performance with my ls too. right now i am trying to look for an intake system but i am really confused on where to buy, and how to install. also, would be intersted in a new exhaust system, but they do tend to get a bit pricey...

and that is another issue....

A $800 exhaust is not bad for a $45k car - not unlike the cost of parts for BMW, Lexus, Merc, ...etc.

Now that the LS owners paid $10k - $15k for their car - the prices for the mods seem expensive for a $10k car.

How about the fact that a exhaust upgrade for the LS has virtually no HP value?

Keeping that in mind ( and reading many posts on the subject of exhausts ) it makes more sense to go out and just splice in a custom exhaust.

I honestly cant see much more gain in aftermarket performance than what we have now unless the popularity of forced induction comes along further. I see the big buys being that of cosmetics.

Exhaust helps plenty, as good as any average N/A car.

More mods will likely come from people making them and figureing out stuff that works. While they may be little things at least more will be available.

As the car gets older I see this happening more. The avarage person doesn't like to experiment with a car that still is valueble or being paid off yet. Thats going away fast. We have seen a few kill there motors whether it was related to the mods or not that will scare some too from experimenting. People think I'm completely crazy when I tell them what I had to do to gear up. And the funny thing its a great mod thats all figured out yet no one else has done it. Which goes back to people just not that serious about making there LS move better.

Its always been to my understanding with the add ons we have you will never have any need to go any further with the exhaust. Could use mufflers and cats and if its only mufflers and cats that furthers my point. Why go with a full kit?

I'm interested in putting 4.10s in my LS but I'm nowhere near qualified to fab up something like that.

Timeslips don't lie.

The pipes connnecting components are just as important as the components.

No demand

The bottom line is that there is no real demand for aftermarket parts for the LS. Sure we all want them, but in the grand scheme of things an aftermarket company would be far more profitable spending the R&D time on cars with a stable platform, very long life and large sales numbers. If it costs me the same amount to engineer and produce something for an LS and for a Mustang why would I ever consider the LS?

As an LS owner I would love to have a bunch of great aftermarket components. But sadly I'm also a realist. It ain't gonna happen.

:(

The 240 cubic inch engines in the LS put out 252 hp (gen 1) and 280 hp (gen 2) stock.
With a CAI and powertune the numbers go up to about 275 and 305 hp.
So we're already getting 1.15 hp per cubic inch on gen 1s and 1.27 hp per cubic inch on the gen 2s.
Taking a 350 cu in Chevy engine would translate into 440 hp with just CAI and tune based on the gen 2 numbers.
So beyond nitrous or forced injection there isn't really anything the aftermarket can make to increase the hp per cu in numbers that would be worthwhile.

UD pulleys, TB spacers, and those types of things wouldn't add up? I've never done those mods before, so I don't know what they gain.

04SCTLS- So YOU were the one that purchased ILLS's turbo setup. Lucky guy!

I had UD pulleys on my other car a Supercharged 97 Camaro LT1 vert before the blower.
I didn't notice any power increase and my lights would dim since the car wouldn't charge at idle.
A TB spacer won't do anything IMO.
