Ok guys, I'm a bit mind stumped here. I have 2 spare neons, one is out of the question because it's the OEM neon from my prairie tan. Then there's my extra CE neon. The gold lettering is faded which is fine with me. I plan (if installed) to paint the lettering in black with a fine thin brush but there's a catch to this neon which I will explain below.
Then there's the original neon that came with the black car. It's solid, ballast works fine however there's one issue. It's LOADED with those hairline cracks from one end to the other. Again, for those that have read my other threads. The previous owner had this car sitting for years under the sun. The red clear lens is cooked. For many owners this may not be an issue since the silver reflective surface is very clean but its driving me crazy. See the picture below.
Then here's a picture of the CE neon that's SUPER clean. No hairline cracks all over the lens like the black one.
However as seen below, there's a HUGE crack running from top to bottom. I dropped the light trying to save a spare headlamp that was also falling while pulling them out of a box. I saved the headlamp from hitting the floor but the CE neon took the loosing end.
The black neon from the car is dull, has barely any gloss on it's surface, the CE neon is very glossy, near perfect condition.
So the question is... If you were about to paint your car & you know the neon trim will be getting painted professionally... Which neon would you choose? I can always swap but then I'd either have to pay the body shop to paint to match or paint it myself which would not be 5 ***** like their work.
