Ok guys, I'm a bit mind stumped here. I have 2 spare neons, one is out of the question because it's the OEM neon from my prairie tan. Then there's my extra CE neon. The gold lettering is faded which is fine with me. I plan (if installed) to paint the lettering in black with a fine thin brush but there's a catch to this neon which I will explain below.

Then there's the original neon that came with the black car. It's solid, ballast works fine however there's one issue. It's LOADED with those hairline cracks from one end to the other. Again, for those that have read my other threads. The previous owner had this car sitting for years under the sun. The red clear lens is cooked. For many owners this may not be an issue since the silver reflective surface is very clean but its driving me crazy. See the picture below.

Then here's a picture of the CE neon that's SUPER clean. No hairline cracks all over the lens like the black one.

However as seen below, there's a HUGE crack running from top to bottom. I dropped the light trying to save a spare headlamp that was also falling while pulling them out of a box. I saved the headlamp from hitting the floor but the CE neon took the loosing end.

The black neon from the car is dull, has barely any gloss on it's surface, the CE neon is very glossy, near perfect condition.

So the question is... If you were about to paint your car & you know the neon trim will be getting painted professionally... Which neon would you choose? I can always swap but then I'd either have to pay the body shop to paint to match or paint it myself which would not be 5 ***** like their work.

I have a black LSC neon in very good shape. However, it needs the studs epoxied. Let me know if iterested. I wouldn't install either one on a freshly repainted car. That crack will show up at night when it's lit. Let alone the fact that water will enter and trash it in no time.

If from those two, I would pick the Black one. Could you not use the sanding and buff technique you use on the headlamps to get rid of the cracks?

Well, I've got so many ppl with the opinion of "Neither one" that I have set aside a tiny budget & purchased a neon from "MyGreat8". So a neon & a front bumper so far + the paint & I'm still working on obtaining a passenger side front headlamp.

you should deffinetly shave off the 32v intech and lsc script when you get the neon from mygreat8..looks way cleaner without the lettering.

no need to set aside a budget for a new neon. throw those 2 on ebay and use that money to buy a good one.

For a reasonable price I'd take the black one just for the trim, my trim is dented in a couple spots, but my lense is perfect

I'd be willing to bet that one with the crazing has been clear coated, as I've never run across another one that looks like that. The plastic probably wasn't properly cleaned/prepared. If you're willing to sacrifice the badges you could probably sand it down and polish it. Or sell it to someone who doesn't want the badges. Damn shame, they look totally intact, and ironically the clear coat is probably what saved them.
