Whatever jack-ass designed the door handle for the Mark8 should be slapped silly, then fired - or set on fire !!!

Took several hours to replace the broken handle, and it's a nightmare to do.

The article on lincolnsonline.com really wasn't that helpful, but I didn't really have the initiative to take pictures and write up a better one though. There really isn't much in the way for tech advice on this problem anyways - it's straight forward, just very difficult to do.

The rod for the key to unlock the door was bent, and wouldn't unlock the door. So I had to tear apart the passenger side just to get the rod from that side. It's key mechanism didn't work anyways, somebody before I owned it had messed around in there too.

Anyways, my knuckles are bleeding, there's a large gash in my palm, my hands are bruised and swollen all over. I need several drinks now, they've been earned. And I never did get to the strut rod bushing repair I wanted to do tonight....

Edited - are all handles the same for the marks (no chrome bits, all body colored)? Is there any way to tell if this was off an LSC? I'm only curious about the rest of the Mark that is in that junkyard where this handle was from.

Mark VIII handles will work, all years 93-98

Certain year Continental handles will work too...

All the times I have pulled the handles from parts cars I cheated and cut the lock rods, but I have done one the correct way... it's not the funnest job I have ever done...

once you do it a few times its not bad, the hard part is getting your hand inside the door at the right spot and being able to see. i used to dread the door handles, now i dont even think about it, i can have one out and changed in 15 minutes. the pass side is easier because it doesnt have the extra stud for the keyless entry pad on it.

I did it in about 45 minutes on my 97, taking uber care not to mess anything up. Its not that bad.

You wanna talk about a pain in the ass? I'm doing a clutch in my explorer 93 4x4 4.0 5 speed, dude, go do one of those and you'll be smiling ear to ear replacing that door handle next time. :D

It the suck, especially laying in your back getting rained on in the cold.

Worst job I have ever done was fixing the exhaust manifolds on my parents 97 F150 that has been in MN its whole life... wanna talk rust!

the worst thing i ever did was change some king pins in the front of an old peterbuilt snow plow truck/ sander for the highway dept. lmfao can you say torches and hammers and tons of aggression!

That sounds like mega fun!

I watched a guy rebush a backhoe arm... I've never heard so much cussing!

You think the door handles are bad wait untill you do the o2 sensors.
Or the dam starter.
These cars are just a plain PITA.

I had some 'fun' a few days ago getting the passenger SRS airbag out.

Superglue and i have become... good friends! :p

How do you get that bag out properly... I tried on both the first gens and they wouldn't come out!

2 bolts secure the bag from underneath, 3 at the sides (only accessible once the big and small black fascia trims are removed - the big one is the pita) Bag has one 2 pin connector.

I never noticed the bolts from underneath... no big deal, I just wanted to pull them out to blow them up....

In actuality, you should go after the Engineers that designed a weak handle for one of the heaviest doors in the industry. After all, if it were designed correctly, you wouldn't have been in this position to begin with!

I always unlatch the door with the handle, but I pull from the top of the door itself....

I also told my friends that if any of them break a door handle on my car they are paying for the new one...

Well my door handles have lated for 12 years now. My pass side one only broke after a soccer mom ran her BMW into my door. I epoxied it back together and it's still good after 3 months.
