Wheel almost fell off.

Awesome news, right? :(

I knew the wheel bearing needed to be changed, but I've been ignoring it. It hasn't been TERRIBLE, but it should've been changed in the spring. Girlfriend called to tell me that the wheel was shaking real bad, and she didn't feel safe driving it. It was perfect this morning. Well, no worse than it has been. I drove out to get her, and then she could drive her car back, and I'd drive my LS.

I drove it a few blocks before deciding it was unsafe, and pulled into a parking lot. I notified the business that it may be tomorrow morning before I get it out of there.

So, now I'm lining up a trailer to haul it to my brother in law's place. My biggest worry now is how in the hell I'm going to get my lowered car up onto a trailer.

New part will be here in the morning.

I should be putting money into my truck, not this thing right now. I'm a week away from parking the damn car until spring. Thank you LS. You f*cking prick.
 
LOL to bad that sucks, at least it didnt fall off completely, i had a buddy with a kia magentis, yanked the e brake hit a curb knocked the rotor clean off, was pretty funny imo. just consider your self lucky!
 
yah it could of been a lot worse...next time try not to ignore the problem but i know how that goes lol.
 
I do consider myself lucky. My 2 year old was in the car when she was driving. I told her to just pull over, but she continued to drive almost 5 miles. I was pissed when I showed up, but more grateful that she and my son were okay.

When my car got smacked and they towed it, they used wood blocks to cut some of the angle off when going up the trailer. (down too)

Those damned 2 year olds... you put them behind a steering wheel, and they think they know it all. :D

Sorry, but from the way you worded that sentence, it came across like your 2 year old was driving the car.

I hope the bearing didn't take out the spindle.

Going to order some new bearings tomorrow.. Never knew it could get that bad..
I know there is a thread with a part number for a whole hub assembly or something like that but does anyone have it off the top of their head? Im lazy.
 
God Pete, at least it happened after you picked it up ( not that thats a great thing to think about either ).

I gotta do mine also. Its almost that time for it to get put down for the winter anyway. Good thing is this year I have a heated garage!

missing linc, i.ll text you the pn for the bearing/ hub assembly. i gotta dig it up from my email. list price is 165, i talked the local dealer down to 132, and i.m getting it over-nighted.

nice thanks man! Im still gonna make an attempt to hit the track tomorrow tho, if I break it, oh well, ill do a hub swap with some mustang parts or something over the winter..
 
hey Pete just for future reference...next time check the 'Quest. When my drivers front ABS sensor went, i had to replace the whole hub bearing because there was moisture in it. Even tho i work at CarQuest im a sucker for OEM Ford crap when it comes to my LS...so i went to Ford. By the way, the part number i got from my local stealership is 5W4Z*1104*BA list price $149.98 ea. [for the fronts anyway].

Just for :q:q:q:qs n giggles i pulled the bearing off the shelf @ work to compare, and dont ya know - they were the same damn thing. Now im not saying they just looked alike... CarQuest even went so far as to dremel the Ford logos and Part #'s off. There were other numbers that they left on of course, and when i compared the one from work to the one from Ford they matched identically. The explanation i got from my boss was that sometimes not all parts are made by aftermarket companies, so CarQuest buys alot of the unavailable parts in bulk from the OE manufactures directly and re-boxes them [shaving logos off when necessary lol]. Now my stores main warehouse is different from your local CQ's main warehouse, so im not 100% if the Carquest by you works the same way. However my employee cost on the CQ bearing was like $80 - so your cost would probably be around $100. Its up to you, but it might be worth looking into for next time...
 
What does a loose wheel feel like? Steering wheel vibrations?

Just wondering what to look for when the time comes.
 
Pete, I just did mine last weekend, it only took about 40 minutes start to finish....you could do it in the lot.
 
This happened to me once... my lug-nuts were loose.
 
You were letting your girlfriend and 2 year old drive around in the car you knew had a wheel bearing going out since May?
 
hind sight is 20/20. in retrospect it was a poor choice. it did not exhibit dangerous symptoms until she drove it. like i stated previously, i instructed her to pull over immediately when i thought failure was imminent. i would not have let her take the car if i thought it was a safety risk.
 
So, just changed the wheel bearing. It was corroded on there pretty good. At least, I think it was. It took me probably a half hour to get it off the control arm.

I get everything back together, and pull out of the driveway. STILL wobbles terribly.

So I think to myself... " it couldn't be that simple, right?" I drive it to my work, about 5 miles, and remove the wheel again. BULGES EVERYWHERE on the tire. at least 5, and all on the back side. Going to get a hold of the place that sold me the tires in the morning. In the meantime, I get to rock the wheel I just painted.
 
Oh, it needed a bearing anyways. It was starting to grind instead of the "wop wop wop" sound when it starts to go. SO I figured that it just finally gave. So the terrible wobble was not from the wheel almost falling off. It was from it almost exploding.
