I have about $2000 to spend on my Mark. I was going to purchase another vehicle but changed my mind and would rather dump it all into the Mark VIII. Its a 97 lsc with 73k on it. Runs great, tuneup done at 55k.

So far-

Sniper Tuned
Asham8 (not installed)
Spider Extreme
3rd cat removed, x pipe, lms mufflers out back
removed air silencer, k & n panel
160* t stat

Everything is up to par, theres a bunch more ive replaced (maintence and stuff) so i dont need to spend the money on that. I have a one piece driveshaft (not installed) and all the parts for a JMOD, so i was thinking that, gears and a traction lock.

Was also thinking about some suspension bracing for the front, maybe out back too.

I'd like to spend it on go fast parts, but 2 grand wont go that far after i do gears & TL, i'd get a stall converter but dont feel like dropping the trans till i need too at which point i'd put a better unit then the 97 back in.

So after gears, stall, tuner...where would you guys go with it?

You guys have "been there, done that" so as always your advice is greatly appreciated.

Start building a short block or trans :)

i wish, i dont have the room to take on that kind of project yet. one day..i'd like to supercharge it.

i should also mention i have a sound system, wheels/tires, and tint...i'd like larger wheels (have 17's) but unless i find the right set ill use these for awhile, i want to change it all over to cobra stuff but not until i need to, the brakes on there are good for a long time.

I'd vote for the converter. If you want go fast mods. Its a PITA, if you can use a lift no more than an evening. Second choice Nitrous that should fit in the buget and theres no better cost effective mod. Pm me if you are interested in a cheap full system.

Just buck it up and do the converter.

Where have you been, man? Start by installing the mods you have and see what you have left. Then gears and a sway bar while your at it.

Search for deals, and get the most for your cash. I did a lot of hunting on multiple sites and so far...
-Slotted/cross drilled rotors, pads $230
-Gears + Trac-lok + master install kit + installation will = $450ish when done.
-Tuner-$165
-jmod $120

I am deciding on a few more mods now. Front and rear sway bars will most likely be next since these things are all over the road. Also really looking at wheels and tires.

As much as I like power mods, handling and stopping is high on my list since that is what gets utilized on a day to day basis.

THANTOS, reread the first post.

Anywho if it were me I would:
Gears+trac lok+ install. Should be about $660ish if you shop right and can have the work done for $400 or less.
SCP front support and K-member braces. $280 + the cost of having the tabs welded on.
Do the J-mod. About $60 ish for fluid and drill bits (unless you included that in parts you have)
Cobra brake upgrade. You can do the fronts and get a power bleeder AND braided lines for just under $600 and its a super easy install.
Addco sway bars. Cant tell ya how much better they are. They rock. $400 plus maybe $100 to have the front installed. The rear is easy to do yourself but the front is a major PITA.

With all that you will accelerat MUCH better, shift MUCH better, stop MUCH MUCH better and go through corners like you wouldnt believe. :)

Don't forget the driveshaft for the gear install. 93 is the minimum but I would go with an aftermarket unit if you can. Since you have to drop the tank for the driveshaft I would replace the pump at the same time.

Everywhere lol I'm gonna get to the other stuff lol Gears are a definite just need to decide on Which ones

Do u know what size the stock ds is? 93 might be ok for now but it's not that bad to drop the tank from what I remeber

The issue is the stock unit is a 2 piece that sucks and from what I remember can expand at higher speeds, will also cause vibration.

1993 mark viii's had a one piece driveshaft, I have one to put in my 97

Stock is 3.5 inches in diameter and 58.2 inches long if I remember right. I found a MMX used and bought it for $200. I've seen several for sale recently for around $300.

If you want help with any of the installs, I can setup the gears, and I have a lift.

I can even put together a Tru-Trac diff with Ford Racing 4.10's (what I've got in my '98), if that's what you're looking for, I've got all the parts in my garage. ;)

I bet I'll charge less than a shop, and you'll get to help. :D
