What kind of Mark VIII owner are you?

Yup, a lot of car for little money. It's a win win as long as you don't have to take it to the repair shop every time something breaks.

Exactly.
It's faster than a Mustang GT, it's cheaper than a Mustang GT, it's more luxurious than a Mustang GT and to be honest, it's better looking than a late SN95 GT (I hate the body kit on the GT. Impossible to imagine that the few cosmetic upgrades on the 03-04 Cobra totally changed the car).
And here in Sweden a late model Mustang GT with the v8 is around $12k minimum because everyone wants Mustangs here.
My $5k (overpriced in your opinion ofc) beats that 12k turd GT :D

As a long-time Ford guy, I fell in love with the Mark VIII when I first saw it in '92. The styling and technology were just amazing to me. And I friggin' loved the interior, with that wrap-around cockpit. Pure sex.

I couldn't afford one at the time of course, but always drooled over them when I saw one. Around 2002, I started looking at them seriously because the prices were coming way down and I was making a whole lot more money. As fate would have it, I was rear-ended in my 95 T-bird in November of 2002, and I made it my mission to own a Mark VIII. I ended up finding a near mint '98 with 24k miles on it at a little used car dealership and bought it for a whopping $14,000.

I babied the car and kept it nice and clean for several years, but the fact that I had to park it outside took its toll and I started to lose interest. I neglected the car badly for about four years, only changing the oil regularly, and doing other maintenance only when it became a problem.

Then in 2010 I came into some cash and decided I wanted to get the car back up to spec. I talked to Jeremi and he agreed to take on the project, so I dropped the car off at his house and left it with him for about two months. I actually asked him not to post pics of the progress because they were so bad. In fact, he tried to talk me into just buying another Mark, it was so bad.

In any case, he managed to turn it around. Replaced nearly everything on the front end including the K-member and all the suspension and steering, new SS brakes lines, and Por-15'ed the underside back to the fuel tank. Swapped the hubs and installed Cobra brakes, along with Speedstars. And we had the drivers side rocker panels replaced along with a partial repaint.

When I got it back I became obsessed with restoring the rest of the car. In 2011 we restored the entire rear end including the subframe, new bags, re-plated hardware, and fuel tank.

Over the past couple of years I've managed to collect an amazing stash of NOS parts. My next goal is a complete engine bay restore, right down to the nuts and bolts. I've got a huge box of original Ford fasteners, all new fluid reservoirs, brackets, sensors, along with a complete NOS A/C system from condensor to evaporator. Pretty much everything that isn't the engine block and heads I have new of. It's sick I know, but I am a detail freak. If I had a dream job I'd restore old cars, and I'd be the guy who knew what finish a particular bolt had in 1972. Since I can't afford to restore my dream car (a 1970 Dodge Challenger R/T), I'll have to settle for this car. LOL.

Sorry Marcus, a story like that cannot be posted without pics. You have to post pics of your car!
We know you have pics of it when you bought and so on ;)

Haha, well I can show a few pics of the rear end stuff we did in 2011, that was posted at LOD. (You shouldn't need to be a member to see the pics)

Jeremi did do a thorough job of documenting his work on the front end in 2010, but I'd have to dig up those pics.

I still have my first Mark from 10 years ago but her dying wish was to have her parts used up so that other marks may live.

Amazing what the outside elements will do to a car that just sits outside..your car looked clean as hell in the first pic!

It lives in the ass end of my car ;)

I bought the 93 to put the 32v into a 40 coupe that has a belly button engine.
The opportunity to make this happen has slipped through my fingers, and is one of my life's regrets.

I bought the 97 to replace the 93 after a Escalade got friendly with it in a parking lot, I fell in love driving that 93 Nordic blue....

I feel bad for this 97 its had it hard.
I drive it hard, its sees all kinds of weather.
Florida car that got a salt beating the last few years.

I'm at a cross road with it now.
Standing on the fence deciding were to take it.

It has served a purpose and sits in my driveway begging for me to fix its multitude of problems that befall every gen 2 overtime.

I stand and look at it and try to convince myself its worth it as I hoard the parts it demands.

well i bought my mark as my first car, and now i have 3 so you tell me hahaha

I'm the kind of Mark VIII owner who lusts after my car. I waited so long for her and try to always treat her like the classic she will become. I'm proud of her and shop regularly for little items to prolong her life. The sweeter she gets, the more difficult it is for me to leave her for any period of time, especially if she's out of sight. :shifty: I love all kinds of cars, but when I see mine, I remember why I'm 100% Lincoln Mark VIII monogamous!!!!!!!! :D

My first Mark was a 93 base that I got for 1200$ in 2002. Got it because it was a luxury car with a strong motor for cheap. After a couple of years it wouldn't pass inspection and I couldn't figure out why so I sold it. My next mark was a 97 LSC i got for 1500$. I did nearly everything to that car. Changed entire suspension, entire interior, painted it, blend door, fuel pump,.. etc. Just 2 weeks ago it blew a head gasket with absolutely NO warning. For the last year I had not had time to do anything other than oil and necessary maintenance so it had become a bit run down. It is now In Jeremy's shop near temple. Friday I'm buying my 3rd mark. Another 97 LSC.

First one I bought because it was cheap. Second one I bought because it's a bad ass car and I knew everything about it and how to fix it. Now I'm buying my third and finding out I just love the damn things.

The third one is much much better condition than the first two and unlike the 2nd mark it's a southern car so no rust problems thank god.

ps... hint hint... mark viii in Temple that has all new (Tokico) suspension, new blend door, good (sortaish) headlights, panels, doors, etc. ;-)

I bought my 98 in 2006 (maybe 07) for $8900 with 59k from a dealership in Ohio. I wasn't actually there to see the car though, my dad was on vacation and I asked if he'd stop by the dealership to have a look. Everything checked out so I went ahead with it, I had been looking for a few years (saving money in the meantime, which was pretty difficult to do at 22).

I bought it outright and had my dads friends drive it back to Phoenix. It now has 130k, light hail damage, and the transmission is sitting on the floor of my garage.

I was originally looking into a Towncar or a Crown Victoria, I wanted something rwd with a V8.. and 4 doors. I ended up really liking Mark VIII's and determined that I wanted a 98 lsc with a specific color, eventually this one came up.

here it is with the Taurus it was replacing, right when I got it

I bought my first Mark VIII (1996 with 60K +/- miles) in 2001 for $4000 bucks. All it needed was new front air springs and a little interior repair (just a crack in the door panel). I drove that car for over 10 years and loved every minute of it. I bought the white '97 for my wife in 2010 or so and then inherited that one when we got the Cobra and sold the '96. I regret selling it and wish I could get it back. Getting rid of that car was dum :D But I love Mark VIII's and I'll have another one if I can get back on my feet financially before my '97 blows up. If I had my way, I'd have one from each year sitting in my driveway. That would be one for each day of the week.
