was hunting down a leak in my brake lines and it came to this..appears to be leaking between the piece above the rubber ring and whatever the big piece in the middle is that holds it all together and possibly from the brake line connection too. what is it and considering it isn't loose, why would it leak?

^ That's gotta be it ^

Funny, I just spent the last 45 mins searching my books and looking under my car. Came back like this:  Did a search and found out my 93 has a completely different type of valve assembly / assemblies! LOL.

I think 94-98 may share that same kinda' valve, so should be easy enough to source a good one. (assuming you can't stop it leaking by tightening it up / replacing the seals etc)

I don't think abs cars have proportioning valves. I think that is some sort of restrictor (I think I may just have contrictidicted myself, a prop valve is a restrictor of sorts). Mine does this too...gonna have to get it repaired soon...

From my 93's book: (not directly relevant to other years, but similar principles)

The brake pressure control assembly consists of twin brake proportioning valves, which proportion the pressure to both rear brakes, individually. When the brake pedal is applied, the full rear brake fluid pressure passes through the proportioning valves to the rear brake system until the valve split point is reached. Above it's split point, the proportioning valves begin to reduce the hydraulic pressure to the rear brakes, creating a balanced brake condition between the front and rear wheels.

its a proportioning valve and all 94-98 have them in the left front wheel well like pictured, 93 is the only one who has it burried under the booster on the frame and makes anyone changing it want to light the car on fire if theyhave to change it. i probably have some of those laying around, i know i kept a 93 style because you cant find them anywhere.

sigh... guess i'll add that to my ever growing list of things to fix. d@mn car is like a wife.. love her to death but can't stand all the problems
