So I finally get around to tackling the squeaking noises coming from the belt area today. I woke up this morning with nothing to do so I drove down to my parents hometown and stopped off at the parts store for some pullies and a gatorback belt (thanks LVC search function). Really, really humid on the drive down so I turned on the ice cold AC and drowned out the horrible squeaking sounds.
So I get the belt off and I notice the tensioner pully was wobbling (guessing that was the squeaking I was hearing) but it would spin forever, then I get to the idle pully and it's nice and firm but doesn't spin for more than two revolutions!!! So I put it all back together (after taking a shower mid way through to cool off as it's 90 degrees with like 100% humidity and I was drenched) started the car up and purred like a kitten... So happy.

Well if any of you follow any of my threads you would know that life is always kicking me down. So I am driving along with the windows down enjoying the note of the exhaust without that horrible squeaking. But I got hot and decided to turn on the AC (you know the AC that was so cold about an hour before) and it blows out hot air. WTF.....

I did notice, however, that when I was in downtown boston stop and go traffic the temp didn't rise above normal like it did before. Guessing the new idle pully moving freely must have helped out a bit. Also felt like I had some more power, but that's just in my head.

Anyway, why would my AC just quit? Within an hour it went from ICE ICE cold to hot!!!

Check the ac pulley plug. I also had that happen to me once. The same fuse controlls the ac and imrc check that too.

If it stopped all the sudden then its most likly the plug front top left of the ac pulley. Or the fuse. With the car running and ac on does the center part of the pulley spin with the engine? It should

Sweet. I am going to go check that out. I do remember a plug that looked loose but forgot to recheck it after I got the thing back together. I was too excited. I'll be right back.....................:D

This happened to me just last week while out driving in the 93 degree city. The air worked fine the whole time and then I made one last stop at Office Depot before going home. When I got back in the car and started it, I turned the air on "auto" like I always do and all I got was hot air. I never shut the car off again until after I got home but I did turn the air on numerous times on the way back and nothing but hot air. At idle, I felt the compressor kick in but hot air.
I turned the car off for a few minutes and started it back again and this time, the air worked perfectly. It's never happened before and hasn't happened again but I'm glad it decided to work start working.

I don't have my manual so I have no clue what this is but this doesn't look right.

well, that doesn't look too good though. How do I fix - or do i replace? Looks like it goes into a harness thats pretty involved.
I'll head back out and check again.:p

Man that is one dirty ass motor! Clean that thing man!

So whats up, did you see if the compressor was spinning when the AC is in the on position? There is a little flat plug behind the pully on the compressor thats for the magnetic clutch, make sure its not dirty cause looking at that engine I bet that plug has some gunk on it.
Also that coolant sensor is easy to replace and thats just the plug there so no rewireing or anything. Just be sure to correctly burp the cooling system after you refill it.

It's too dark tonight. I'll have to look into this on the weekend.
The engine is dirty and also oxidized. I'll get to it as soon as life slows a bit - when i die LOL.

Everything looked like it was moving. I couldn't see the plug using the flash from my camera. It kept timing out. I have no lights or anything to help, i'll have to get it to my dads place.

I'd replace that just because it looks :q:q:q:qed... lol

Damn that motor is dirty as hell...

Looks pretty involved to replace. Looks like it goes into a wire harness that branches off all over the place. oh hum....

And today was the first time i took off the engine cover to see that grime. There are lots of wires in the engine compartment that need to be covered and such so I can clean the engine bay, all the work done on the car from previous owners (minus the exhaust) has been hacked!!!!! Like I did the work.

Mine was a little dirty and oxidized too. Some purple power and a brillo pad on the alt and intake helped allot. I live on a gravel road so every time I wash the car I do a light mist on the engine and promply use the air compressor to blow the water out and wipe it down. It has been over 2 months since I last cleaned it but 10 minutes ago I just wiped it all down and used some Back To Black. Took less then 5 minutes and heres the result. :D

I was working on getting spares for my 96 and on helping out thaywood when his 96 mark was down, and I have a number of spares now (he ended up getting a vcrm from somebody finally, I got TWO within a couple days after he pulled the trigger)-So I have 2 spare vcrm's, 2 spare ECU's (catch codes are EPB0 and WWX2) and 4 (2, each side) IMRC's for a 96, so let me know if it is the VCRM, if it is and you get stuck, I'll try to help you out.

It was 98 degrees with wicked humidity here today, not a day you want to be driving around in a car with no AC.
