would it be beneficial to move the air temp sensor to the inside of the car so it gets a more regulated temp. i know that moving it away from the engine by relocating it closer to the air filter, so is moving it to the cabin a good idea or should i just leave it next to the air filter.

I think I would leave it where it's at. That's just me though. I don't really see where it would help by moving it inside the cabin. The cooling fan needs to know when to come on and being inside, it would be a lot cooler in there which may lead you to have over heating issues.

you want it where it is so the computer knows the temp of the air going into the engine, if its in the cab its gonna get inaccurate readings

I had read somewhere that by moving it away from the heat of being on top of the engine that it would help out in the mileage dept by getting cooler air readings

you would get better mileage from cooler air readings, if your intake was sucking up cooler air, not if u just move the sensor

cool i just thought about it while in my office today after reading about it on the net

It seems I have read this on a ricer forum or mag about some old wives tale of getting more HP by putting the IAT sensor in the car.
Thought that was just so freakin dumb. That cant work.

The IAT sensor is there so the car knows how much fuel and timing to add or take away depending on air temps. So say its 110* outside and the intake track heat has risen to 140* or so, thats the temperature going in the engine and the computer needs to know this. So you have your IATs in the car reading a 60* breeze from the AC vent. Computer thinks its getting all this cool air so it throws a bunch of timing at the motor but because its so hot the car gets detonation cause the computer didn't know to compensate for the excessively hot day and then all the sudden your motor has a window in it right above the oil pan.

Bad news all the way around. Hell, I moved my IATs to a spot where it will read hotter temps just so the computer could pull even MORE timing on hot days. :)

I once had a ricer with a Mazda tell me he was pulling more power because of the pin holes he had in his intake tube after the MAF sensor. :D

believe it or not i found this on a vette site my dad was on i had a feeling it was bogus but it never hurts to ask the opinions of those who are trusted here

There is a reason why engineers who went through a lot of school and get paid a lot of money do things like put IAT, MAF, O2, TPS, and all the other sensors where they put them...

mhm, and the dumb ass that come up with the oil filter location, needs his ass kicked by everyone on here. The engineer that almost put the TPS and IAC in the cabin on the Gen 1 also needs his crotch kicked by someone with a 5 foot long leg and a size 15 shoe. Anyway, I think that reason was to get paid a lot of money to do a lot of stupid sh!t.
