Water spots...

i picked it up for more like 30K but that was when it first came out, much harder to find these days, It was a limited production item

Today was a good day to own a LS for me haha. My buddy and I were driving around and he kept pointing out all the people looking at my car as we passed. Then out on a back road (not dirt, HELL NO) he got a text from his friend who noticed him in the passenger seat saying my car "looks f*cking cold." I guess thats new slang cause I've never heard it. But either way it was awesome haha.

Good to here stories like this. Makes some of the hardship of ownership worth it. Then again you could probably own a "cool looking" v6 mustang for less and get the same response but at least this has a little bit more behind it, not as common, and what not. I'll never forget some kid at the park say that he wants to :q:q:q:q my car. Took it as a compliment but how does someone just openly say that?

i have a light tundra color basically light green... i read up on that thread also... wonder if the black box will work on that color... hmm... research research

hmm.. no......the "prewax" and wax have black pigmented components, they would not be permanent, but probably wont look to great on the truck

I don't think he was talking about a Tundra, but he was saying his car is a "light tundra color"

Duh... but still... dont think that'd be the best idea..IF you want a "easy" dummy proof process.. get the meguiars 3 step process... Will work for any color

Yeah Black Box is specifically formulated (black pigment) for black cars. I have a feeling it wouldnt come out to great on anything but black (or maybe dark gunmetal type grey) cars. I've decided im going to try the Dodo Supernatural next time I go for the full monty wax job. The reviews, and some recommendations, have really sold me on giving it a try.

I've been doing some research on some car care products, to be quite honest i have no idea what im suppose to be looking for. Have always bought the stuff they sell for discount at autozone for my other cars. I want to take care of this car, I see the dedication y'all put into the cars. Mad props

I started reading tutorials on www.autogeek.net

Then after you get a basic understanding, visit www.detailingbliss.com, a forum dedicated to auto detailing.

Be prepared to put in a decent initial investment of both time and money. I don't even want to think about what I've spent on detailing stuff. I know I approached $5000 rather quickly lol.

Thanks for the guidance. 5 grand, huh? Its paid off i bet. Saw the work on the Impala on another thread, great work

Thanks. :D

And yeah, the equipment really adds up, depending on how far you want to take it.

PC7424: $100? can't remember
Makita 9227: $200? can't remember
Backing plates/extensions for polishers: $100
Polishing pads, different aggressiveness, different sizes, different brands: $400-600
Lights (for inspection - flood lights mostly, handheld light, that gas station light) - $300
Polishes: $350
Microfiber towels - easily $600 there
Misc tools (wheel brushes, tire brushes, arch brushes, barrel brushes, interior brushes, leather brush, foam detailing swabs, glass cleaning tool, etc.) - $150
Chemicals (variety of exterior shampoo, degreaser, paint safe degreaser, APC, tire cleaner, wheel cleaner, interior cleaner, carpet cleaner, glass cleaner, leather cleaner, leather conditioner, leather protectant, vinyl/plastic UV protective treatment, seal conditioner/restorer, stain remover, tire dressing, etc.) $1500
Metro vac n blo vaccuum - $200 IIRC
Pressure Washer - $100
Carpet Extractor (I still use a Bissel Little Green Machine Proheat) - $100
Waxes/Sealants - $1200 or thereabouts

That's just some stuff off the top of my head. Just added that up, and comes up to $4900. I'm sure I'm missing a bunch of stuff. Thing is, after you get into it, you want to try all kinds of different products. Hence $1200 on waxes/sealants.

thats definitely out of my budget and skill level for now, I'd like to get the basics down first then move on from there... gotta get rid of some nasty water spots, tried waxing, may clay it next then polish by hand... been getting some good info on the other sites though. thanks again

You bastard. Now I'm loading up a cart myself lol. If I don't spend $500 in the next week, my wholesale account will expire.
I'll check out your cart, and let you know what I think.

FINE PEKTEL... you can order me some things just to help fill up the cart... BUT dont say i never did anything for ya (and throw some mid 90's cubans when you ship :D)

Glossworks: never used it. I really like Citrus Wash and Gloss. You can change the dilution to either have a nice maintenance wash, or to strip any wax/sealant on the paint. I myself use Optimum Car Wash. If I need to strip the paint surface, I add some Optimum Power Clean. I also use Optimum No Rinse.

Wash Mitt: Sheepskin are great wash mitts. I myself use a sponge, only because it's easier for me to see if there are contaminants.

EZ Detail mini: yep. I have a couple. They do work nice.

Drying Towel: I have one. I prefer the showroomfx towel to the DI one. Seems to absorb water better. But the DI one works fine too. Another nice thing about the showroomfx towels are the price.

Polisher kit: Love the PC7424XP. Never used the meg's microfiber polishing system, though I have heard good things.

Grit guard: A complete necessity. I'd buy 2. One for each bucket.

Grout sponge: I'd probably use this instead of the sheepskin mitt. All personal preference though.

Prepolish kit looks nice. That's a new thing since I started. Takes a lot of the guesswork out of it.

I'd suggest getting something to clean the wheel face too. I use a Swissvax wheel brush. I have 3 or 4, in fact.
