I just got the car ready to take the to track, or at least I thought I did. I got off work and got onto the highway for the 100mi trip to the race track, and when i got the car up to about 70mph and i was getting a NASTY vibration.

My dad thought it was a rotor that was frozen up, but after driving it 20mi in town they are all about the same temperature.

It feels like a drivetrain vibration to me. I can feel it through the floor, but not always through the steering wheel. Im thinkin maybe u joints but idk.

When i am driving its not that bad under 50, but at 70+ it feels like hell. When I decelerate with no brakes is when it really gets bad.

Any thoughts?

I guess that means Im done driving it for the year. Im REALLY glad we didnt take it up north last weekend now.

Kinda sounds like the rear U-joints or possibly might have something to do with 2 or more of the 4 bolts holding the shaft to the rear end. Maybe they have worked their way loose. That would be the first two places I would look.

2 years ago before we went to carlisle i had them ballanced, then drove about 200 mi, then ballanced again, and there was always a slight tire vibration, but nothing like what Im feeling now. I guess it could be the tires but im still leaning twards drivetrain. Ill look at it more this weekend.

+1 on flat spots.
Do you store it on jack stands?
I drive the 40 about once every two years, the tires are flat spotted so bad it will drive you crazy.
Anyone close to you, you could try there wheels to know for sure.

i dont store it with the 18s on, but they have been on since march. It drove fine during the beach party.

I dont need anyone close to switch wheel, ive got like 8 sets lol.

I didn't know it had set that long. It very well could be flat spots. I took brand new tires off the 93 that I had set out back and it had no engine. Only body weight and on grass and they had flat spots after setting for the winter. I put them on the 95 and drove it from Madison, AL. to Auburn, AL. and back home. They finally came out but still took them and had static weights put in and now it's smooth at all speeds except one little spot in the 80's. Can't figure that one out. Around 88 I get a slight vibration but before or past that, it's smooth.
