v10 mark viii?

That V10 does sound sweet though. I drove an e350 with V10, wasn't much faster than the 5.4 imo.

LBS (Block?)
Ford 4.6 DOHC 464 (72) 9 pounds lighter than SOHC
Ford 4.6 DOHC 437 (77) w/o accessories
Ford 4.6 DOHC 521 (94) aluminum block and heads
Ford 4.6 DOHC 576 (168) Mustang

Ford Triton V10 635 (128) dressed

so would i be looking at 200 pounds more or 100 pounds more? if its 521 block and heads for the 4.6 and the v10 is 635, then its 114 pounds, but i dont quite understand your chart. i'm guessing that the parenthesis are the bare block weight, the first one is block with cast heads, the second is the same just without accessories (obviously), the third is aluminum block and heads, with accessories? but what doesn't make sense is that if the first one is aluminum block and cast heads, why is it heavier then the third one? the fourth one i'm assuming is the dohc 4.6 they use in the mustangs only. the v10 is 635, and i'm assuming that dressed means all accessories, ready to run. correct me if i'm wrong, because i am a little confused here.

well all i gathered from that link was that a guy ended up editing a lot of it out, and his list had the 4.6 as 576 pounds. if the v10 is 635, thats only a 59 pound difference which isn't too much added weight. if someone on that forum would edit and clarify how it's supposed to be organized then it would be an awesome list.

So how strong is the crank in one of the V10s? Forged pistons and rods would be easy, but I don't think I've ever seen an aftermarket crank...

Not sure, but I do know that years ago, Ford actually put a v10 in a new edge SN95 Mustang and called it the Boss 429, because they had done some work to it and it eventually became about 429 cubic inches, and it was apparently a monster in N/A form... not sure what all they did to it... I'll have to go home and dig up that issue of that Mustang magazine it was in....

Man at the prices you can get a Mark for I sure wouldn't screw around trying to fit a V-10 or any other techno engine in a shell. If you live in a place w/o emmisions and it has a clean title drop a 335 series big block/C-6 combo in, back 1/2 it and go have a blast at the cruise nights and drag strip. Easy-Peasy. You can make 500 horse + out of a 460 easy with off the shelf parts and will still be very streetable. Shoot the Edelbrock Performer RPM heads, cam and intake will get you 550+ on stock 9:1 short block 460 and it's a relatively easy fit in the huge Mark engine bay. Just think how cool it would be to hit the local cruise night with tubbed mark with dual quads on a tunnel ram sticking through the hood? It's a safe bet you would be the only one there with one.

connecticut has emissions, however minnesota doesn't and i can still register a car out there using my old address because my old room mate still lives there. believe it or not the v10 is lighter then the 460. like i stated before i would do this just to be different. all mark's have a v8, why not put a couple extra cylinders under the hood. also i would prefer to have a manual tranny and the t45 and t56 will bolt up to a v10. at this point i really am considering this project, however the engine i had a lead on is no longer available because some guy bought the whole truck. i'm not in a rush for this, but i think that i will attempt this. if i fail then i sell the v10 and put a v8 in lol, not a big deal to me. most of my spare time is spent in my garage anyway so there would really be no loss as far as labor goes. i'm not looking to build a drag car, just something unique that i can drive on the street. don't get me wrong though, your idea would be cool lol...hey maybe if i find another mark viii for parts i'll give it a shot and build an all out track car, or when this is done, use my running one for a drag build. it seems like it would be a lot more work to get a carb'd big block in there though, especially if i back half it, tub it, cage it, etc. i have a fair amount of free time, and i'm :q:q:q:qing crazy, so you never know what dumbass idea i'll come up with next lol.

The V10 Mark

I also have been thinking about a v10 swap, Did you get anywhere with yours? If so please tell me all about it. I would love to hear the 6.8 liters of symphonic fury coming from the engine bay of my mark.

Symphonic is not a term I would use when describing a Ford V10. Have you actually heard one?

No thanks.

it would sure look a lot better

I found this thread about it

http://www.mercurymarauder.net/forums/showthread.php?t=79621

that is cool though, an LQ9 with some L92 heads/cam/intake in a mark would be my dream..it's just unfortunate that there's so much fabrication needed to make it happen..there's a guy who put an LS 5.3 in a 97 thunderbird with a whole write up on it, and it looked pretty involved..

check it out

I love how many haters there are who say it's sacreligous to put a chevy in a ford and blah blah blah, theyre just mad that it takes so much more effort and money to make the same amount of power with a 4.6 than any LSX motor.

I say work smarter not harder..

V10

why not just twin turbo regular mark viii? v10 seems overkill and heavy!!!!!!

its in a truck for a reason.

It's not always about the hp - unless you are building it for the strip - a turbo on a stock V10 - the mid range torque would be mind blowing ---- right where we drive. There's also the unique factor - We all try to make our marks unique. shoot now I wana find a V10 :D .

Guess i'd have to start that project with another mark - Wife won't let mine set long enough to get the hood off of it.

I can only fathom the handling characteristics with that extra weight in addition to it being hung further over the front axle.

For everyone else's saftey, Don't.
