A Stock Ls Can Handle Better Than A Stock Mark 8, But With Larger "aftermarket" Swaybars, Bushings And Tire-rim Swap, The Mark Being 7.4 Inches Wider And The Speed Assist Steering And Oh Yeah The Suspension Lowering At 60mph, The Ls Would Never Stand A Chance.
Too late mespock...you tried to save him...but here it is. Now read carefully boys and girls, this is a huge can of FACTUAL whoop-ass....
In the Mark VIII 97-98The DOHC 32-valve 4.6L V8, rated at 280 hp, came with a distributorless coil-on-plug ignition system, eliminating the use of high voltage spark plug wires. Some of the transmission internal parts were reinforced in the late 1997 models and all 1998 models. LSC models had firmer shocks and larger anti-roll stabilizer bars, for better handling and control, a lower gear ratio and true dual exhaust giving a 10 hp boost taking it to 290 hp.
1998 Mark VIII LSC STATS:
Length: 207.2 in.
Width:
74.8 in.
Height: 53.6 in.
Wheel Base: 113 in.
Curb Weight: 3765 lbs.
Luggage Capacity: 14.4 cu. ft.
Torque: 290 ft-lbs.
Horsepower: 290 hp
Base Engine Size: 4.6 liters
1/4 mille time: 15.3 sec
0-60 Time: 7.0 sec
2005 LSV8 STATS
Length: 194.4 in. - 12.8" shorter! That is a plus for handling.
Width: 73.2 in. - The VIII is 1.6" wider than the LS, so much for your 7.4" HA!
Height: 56.4 in.
Wheel Base: 114.5 in. - 1.5" WIDER than the VIII - Definite + for handling!
Ground Clearance: 4.3 in.
Curb Weight: 3772 lbs. - only 7 lbs. heavier than a '98 VIII. I'll take out the floormats and we'll be even. So much for your 550 lbs!
Luggage Capacity: 13.5 cu. ft.
Base Engine Size: 3.9 liters
Horsepower: 280 hp
Torque: 286 ft-lbs.
1/4 mile time: 15.1 sec
0-60 time: 6.7 sec
- The VIII's displacement is about 16% more than the 05LS (4.6L vs. 3.9L) but only makes about 3.5% (290 vs. 280) more HP than the LS and 1.4% more torque (290 vs 286)
MOST IMPORTANTLY AND THE MOST COMMON MISCONCEPTION!!
THE STOCK MARK VIIIs WERE NOT, I REPEAT, ARE NOT FASTER THAN THE 2003-2005 LSV8s OF TODAY. CAR AND DRIVER TESTED THE 2003 LS AND HERE IS WHAT THEY HAD TO SAY...
"The most apparent effect of these quantum changes is a not insubstantial improvement in performance by virtue of a 28-hp boost (to 280) to the LS's 4.0-liter DOHC V-8 engine.
Compared with previous LS V-8s we've tested, the 2003 version lops a half-second off the 0-to-60 and quarter-mile times, hitting the marks in 6.7 and 15.1 seconds, respectively. Running up through the gears of its manumatic transmission is as much an aural as a physical pleasure — the engine sounds a bel canto tenor, and the transmission shifts with crisp precision."
According to every site I could find (Car and Driver had nothing)...the best 0-60 and 1/4 mile time for a 1998 Lincoln Mark VIII LSC was 7.0 - 0-60 and 15.3 1/4 mile...
The LS debuted with a 3.0L V6 and optional 3.9 L V8. The 3.0 L V6 was a variant of the Ford Duratec 30 engine, and was available with either a manual or automatic transmission (both 5-speed; with automatic transmissions having a manual-shift option). The 3.9 L V8 engine was an all-aluminum variation of the 4.0 L Jaguar AJ-V8 engine. The LS was named
Motor Trend's Car of the Year in its debut, and was nominated for the
North American Car of the Year award as well. Because of its sporting nature and driver's appeal, the LS garnered a great deal of interest among enthusiasts, resulting in the formation of several online clubs dedicated to the car.
Now that is Lincoln's Best vs Best because none of the other Marks were as fast as the '98 VIII LSC stock and the fastest LS is the 03-06.
Too Small Of A Car. The Lincoln Has Pretty Much All Alluminum Everywhere Like Block, Suspension, You Name It, Plus Has Fiberglass Hood And Other Body Parts That Reduce Weight, Still Is A Good 550 Pounds Heavier Than A Ls. Ls Is In A Higher Class, The Ls Is A Subcompact With A V8, And Still Cant Run Down A Mark.
You are stupid. Read above. If you think any of the things you are saying are true you should be slapped. You think have a small car makes it handling more difficult go challenge a BMW coupe to a slalom race with a driver who knows what they are doing...
Black Sunshine Is Coming Along Running A 13.88 @109.3 At The Strip In Vegas, The Strip Is The Dragstrip Here Where For $10 You Can Run All Night At Midnight Meyhem, I Have Dusted The Few Ls's I Have Faced, And Most Of The Tuned Hondas Beat The Ls ??
When I used to race I was RARELY been beat by "tuned honda" in a drag race that wasn't using a major form of forced induction or n2o...I've raced probably 30. I think Quik's LS will top 13.88 in the 1/4 once ready....IMHO. Or at least I hope so.
SO! I hope I cleared everything up for you. You see, the LS enthusiasts are an educated bunch (for the most part) and if you make ludicrous claims that one's here...you will be broken down and torn apart without mercy.
Hehehehehe.
Oh their is one thing I forgot. You're right. The VIII has .9 cu ft more of truck space. You got us there.
