Twitching steering in sweeping turns

I had the dealer flush it as the car was there anyways. They drained the resevior, hooked a machine up to it, let it and the car run for 5 minutes, then turned the wheel lock to lock for another 5 minutes or so and they were done.
It was very easy for me as I only had to drive the car to the dealer ;) It seems to be working fine so far as it hasn't done it again since...

I can't believe no one has mentioned the rag joint between the rack, and steering column. My 94 was all over the place in sweeping turns. I replaced that, and the problem went away.

Mike

Thats what I was gonna advise. First I was gonna suggest the plug and maybe the wires are melted and touching but see thats been covered so the rag joint was my next thought.

Thats what I get for leaving today.

I also have the twitch. Only thing not new on front/steering is drivers hub. Gonna replace it when I have some $$$.

You might consider getting an in-line filter for the ps. I put one on mine after replacing the rack (cardone don't like it), pump (cardone don't like it), and hoses.

I think I got a 97-98 rack and/or have EVO issues, steering is tight and parking sucks. Can't trouble shoot the EVO since it's part of the air ride routine and I'm on coils. May get a new valve and try that.

Mine used to do the same thing and still might but within the last week or so, I replaced my steering rack with an OEM rack. I haven't hit a ramp since installing it but I never used to think anything about it before. I still haven't had it aligned yet either so I might still have the pulse on the ramps. Before I drive it anywhere, I'm flushing the system and getting the Mercon in and the power steering fluid out.

The front end guy at the dealer spent all afternoon with the car (not by choice on his part!) All seems well, and the alignment is pretty well dead on what I wanted, though the tech will never want to see another Lincoln again in his life! He did a great job though :) The car feels better and now I will be comfortable taking it on the highway without killing the tires.

One of the techs there got to put a brand new engine in a Mark back years ago in a new car that was having issues. The car was so important to Ford then they didn't fix the problem, but replaced the whole engine with the guys from head office where ever watching, and shipped the other one back to be examined!

I couldn't believe the number of people that came in to look at the car. I was surprised my old Lincoln would get this much attention! I even had a guy stop beside me at a red light and ask if I was selling it and that he had a couple himself, though I don't think he got my number as he hasn't called yet.
:)

Oh yeah. The dealer I work at they said some marks were actually sent back to ford to be looked at...
