M3 Mirrors

I've wanted to update my mirrors to M3 looking mirrors for a while.

Here's what I did:
- purchased the el'cheapo mirros from e-bay

- then I cut out the clear signal window lens
- I then 'trimmed' the lens with a dremel tool
- I took my LS mirrors off my car
- I then cut a hole in my LS mirror housing
- I then epoxy’ed the clear lens in the hole

Here's the result:

I then:
- wired in two amber bulbs into the mirror interior housing
- one pointed to the outside (toward the clear lens)
- one pointed inside

I also drilled in 3 puddle lights:
- one toward the clear lens
- two in the bottom of the mirror housing

I then wired the lights up:

Here's the diagram for the turn signals:

Hooking up the signal wires were tricky - as the LS uses a multiplex wiring system - there is a Front Electronics Module:

to Add LED V-Signals in your mirrors:

while you are at it:

LED V Turn Signal Mirrors

I followed the instructions posted a while ago from the Taurus Club:

http://www.taurusclub.com/modules.php?name=News&file=article&sid=106

I purchased :
- 12,000mcd RED LEDs off e-bay (100 LEDs for $18)
- 560ohm resisters from Radioshack

I then
- soldered 9 LEDs in parallel into a V and attached a resistor to one leg
- covered them in glue to keep it water tight
- pulled the mirror out of the housing
- pulled the mirror out of the plastic holder
- peeled the heater pad off the corner of the mirror (and cleaned the glue goop off the mirror)
- cut enough of the plastic housing away to mount the LEDs
- filled the cavity with black silicon sealant (to keep it water tight)
- attached the LEDs to the turn signal wires (already in my mirror from my earlier project)

took a couple of hours - but pretty easy.

Dont think it can be done!! WTF do you do for a living again Quik? :Beer

Quik do you still have this on your car? I was thinking of doing it myself and it looks kind of hard.

Has anyone else done this?

sure - those are the stock mirrors so they are on the car.

I think itsnotmydaddys did the LED Vs.
I don't think anyone else tried the M3s....

I might give this a try. I guess now I have to find the cheap ones on ebay so I can take them apart.
