Is there software that I can use with my laptop to tune a 1993 mark viii. I want to increase timing, customize OD, and increase transmission firnmess.

SCT's Pro Racer Package used in conjunction with a chip burner or the Moates Quarterhorse used with BE are two options that will do what you're looking for.

/\/\ What he said! /\/\ Can't just tune a Gen 1. You have to buy a chip and have a tune burned onto it. I could be mistaken but I think one chip takes up to 3 tunes... Not positive on that but you're looking at chip cost and burning a good tune to the chip cost and (Torrie at Fast Parts Network) seems to be one of the best at doing this. Torrie has been recommended many many times. Others with chips will likely chime in and maybe correct anything I just said.

Using a chip burner and SCT Advantage software, you can burn your own tunes to a chip. With the Moates Quarterhorse and Binary Editor software, you can upload the tunes from the laptop to the Quarterhorse chip.

Either way, you can do your own tuning.

All I want to do it alter my shift points and converter lock up. So with this could I read and copy what I have now and then make some changes to then burn a new chip with the changes ?? And if yes about how much does this cost ??

The reading and copying what you have now is the tough part. You are supposed to be an SCT 'dealer' to be able to have that kind of access. However, if you are 'stock', your stock tune should be part of the PRP database.

Exactly. If you're stock, you can work off of the stock tune file. If you're already tuned, you can ask your tuner for the file to use as a starting point.

can you please provide me the link to directly buy quarterhorse and BE please.

This is the reply I got from them when I asked about my 1993 mk8
Let me know what you find out.

Hi There,

You would need to see if Strategy is supported with computer code, if not likely we could have one custom built for your application.

Look under the down load tab for current free strategy with Binary Editor.

This what I got back when I told him I have a W3Z2 in my car:

Binary Editor has a pay definition for it. I don't know how much the definition is or how complete it is. You'd need BE2010 to use this as it's one of dex's definitions.

Your shopping list:
QuarterHorse
Binary Editor 2010
CZAJL definition from Derek Fenwick (dex)

Optional:
F3 chip module
Jaybird programmer. "

Aren't you?

No, I seriously pursued it when it first surfaced but was unable to find the strategy code that was compatible with my car at the time.

I went with the SCT Pro Racer Package.

I haven't seen or heard of any Mark VIIIs with QH since. Meanwhile, many if not most SuperCoupes have migrated to QH.

Just curious more than anything as I doubt at this point I would switch.

There is a Binary Editor strategy for W3Z2 cars at least. The CZAJL one can be unlocked for $25 to dex.

No warranty as this is reverse engineered but I imagine that's normal.

I have a W3Z3 same or not?

Not the same. Just a minute and I will show you some numbers so you can see the differences. I'll edit shortly.

W3Z2 speed limit (driveshaft revs) 16372= no speed limiter

Shift pressure on the W3Z2 PCM is about 15 PSI higher as well, for a more solid, quick shift.

What I meant was can my comp be hooked up to QH and messed with. I have a chip in mine now which changes all the stock settings already. I just checked my spare comp and its a W3Z3 also.

Wow that W3Z3 PCM is HOT. No wonder why my 93 ran 14.7 bone stock.

There was no such option for my W3Z2/CZAJL when QH first came out. So someone must now be running a QH in an early Mark VIII.
