Ok so I didn't to hijack. But I posted already on the fact of my 05 v8 went into etc failsafe mode. So I happened to get out of work early enough to take it to get comp read at the local shop. Codes 2107 came up 8 times.

Description: throttle actuator control processor.
Open or short circuit conditions.
Or failed ECM.

Now upon my research on this wonderful forum and so previous posts by fellow members.

Am I safe to assume that I should replace coils and plugs? Or should I check into this throttle thingy?

What's the best type of plugs to go with? Longevity and performance?

And valve cover gaskets?

Anything else I should do since I'm going to be tearing into this baby? ? Cars got 121k now. Its an 05.

99% likely that new coils and plugs will fix this.
NGK BKR5EGP plugs
Unless you have oil in the wells, you don't need new valve cover gaskets. (04 to 06 got good gaskets from the factory) If you do have oil, the current Ford gaskets are as good as any.
When's the last time you replaced all the plastic cooling system parts?

Apparently when the #4 coil fails internally it throws out a magnetic field that screws with the ECM, which lives just on the other side of the firewall. You will notice that if you go easy on the loud pedal you can get along just fine without going into ETC Failsafe Mode. Once you get on it, the coil "fails", sends out an electromagnetic pulse and confuses the ECM. The ETC throttle bodies rarely fail so it's a goog bet it's the coils. Additionally, with 121K miles you are waaaaaay past due for new coils and plugs.

I used NGK Iridium plugs and Visteon coils. As the Visteons are no longer available (THANKS Big Rig..... HOARDER ;)) I would stick with Motorcraft coils.

I agree with joegr and LS4me. Coils and plugs will probably take care of it. My car was throwing codes for ECM and injector wiring that went away with new coils.

I read that motorcraft is the way to go. but being that im now single as of june. and moved back in with my mom. (long story, sensitive subject.) whom lost her job in june. Im the only one bringing in income. are duralast coils bad? is there any other cheaper ones out there that will last as long as the motorcrafts? Stupid question. I know. Im just a tad strapped at the moment. and need my car back on the road as fast and as cheap as possible till I get us back on our feet or my mom gets a job?

What's the .model number on the plugs and coils I should get? So I make sure I get the right ones...

PS. Thanks guys for all the help.

I use BWD coils and have success. They also have a lifetime warranty and you can get them at local parts stores.

I had never heard of bwd. are they a better than the duralast? because a couple local shops carry them. and I was on the fence about them since I had never heard of them. but Ill take your word on that.

I think they're much better than Duralast, since Duralast is an AutoZone brand. 6 of my 8 are BWD coils and I don't have any issues with them. Advance and O'Rwilly carry them.
