Okay, I'm by no means bitching yet.. for my intentions are to restore my LS and keep it forever. However everything seems to be hittin' me at once lol. Geuss it's to be expected at 96500 miles though. Anyhow.. here we go..

So I just got out of work an hour ago, and on my way home my tranny did something new. I was waiting for a redlight and once it turned green, I accelerated slowly as normal. First gear clean, second gear clean.. then upon shifting to third.. rpms increase from 2k to 3.75k-4k then it shifts into third. After this occured, I smelled kind of a burning smell. Not super dense or distinct, but I could smell it. The car shifted normal the rest of the way home (approx. four 4-way stops). One thing I will add is for the last week, it has seemed that the car would slightly hesitate before it would shift up to third gear, but it was a common hesitation. A hesitation that I experience in most any Fords. They like to sit at an RPM for a half a second or more before shifting (atleast in my experience((mustangs, my wifes ford fusion, my lincoln ls etc)).

Anyhow, is my tranny conpletely taking a s***? I can't check my tranny fluid level until tomorow morning because it's late, but I really believe it's full. So let us assume it's full for this next question. Would flushing the transmission help with the shifting symptom I'm experiencing? Just curious.

Any input is greatly welcomed, you guys have led me in the right direction and have been very helpful on many occasions. I thank you all, God bless you and your LS's !!! Goodnight

Just about to knock out. Would someone please tell me how complicated it will be for me to drain the tranny fluid and add new fluid? I was just researching it on google and of course it can't be simple like most cars.

There are a few DIY threads on this site. This was talked about just a few days ago as well.

It's very unlikely that a fluid exchange is going to help you, and even less likely that a partial fluid change will help. You change the transmission fluid before you have a problem, to prevent future problems. Once you have a problem, it is almost always too late. If you are lucky, you'll just need to replace the solenoid assembly and/or valve body.

If it were my LS I would change the shift solenoid, put in a transgo shift kit while the pan is off, change the filter, fill it up then take it to the dealer for a flush. If that doesnt cure the problem then you are up a creek

I've never seen anyone put a :) when they're about to be $3k poorer.. I've read threads where the valve body was a problem on the 03s. Of course there's a plethora of other things. Most of them point to a rebuild.

Something else about the wrong fluid being put in at the factory IIRC.

I feel like 03s are just luck of the draw. Doesn't seem to be nearly as many solenoid pack failures as the 04s.
