so my transmission in finally going out. the other day on the freeway when it was shifting it would feel like i was slamming on the breaks for a quick second so i need to see if i can get a replacement or should i just part it out how much do you think i can get if i part it?? and how much would a used tranny go for? i dont have anymoney so i will probably just part it... and i mean dump. not dumb

If you have the mechanical ability to do it yourself...weigh that with the other problems the car may already have that you've yet to fix

if you need a trans, there's a 94 in my local u-pull with a trans and the fluid is cherry red..I'll check the price if you like ..and I'll even pull it for you and ship..just pay for the trans and shipping

parting may be a good option if the motor is still good..how many miles are on it? Other than that..you should know a good ammount about part prices from just cruising the forums
 
the motor has 181 on it and is very strong yea i would really appreciate it if you can check on that price for me i have a friend that lives in el paso how far is that from you? thanks alot sapp
 
I'm in Waco...so el paso is about 400?miles

my U-pull trans is 167.48 without core , then whatever S+H will be

rofl, guy at the yard asked me if a Mark was a FWD...stOOpid

That's not a bad price at all for that tranny. I bought a C-5 AOD for my old '88 Town car from a local salvage yard for $250 bucks about 10 years ago. It actually came out of an '86 Grand Marquis. If I needed a tranny I'd jump all over that. I'd go for it if I were you.:)
 
And you don't even have to send me a check for the trans...you can pay via phone with a CC straight to the yard..then you -could- send me a lil something for jerkin it out for ya :D I'll be at the yard
most of the day tomorrow and Sunday...let me know if I need to start removing it
 
All you need is the valve body. When the trans locks like that its due to wrong commanded shift pressures. You may have a bad spring or two or just bad electronics. At any rate its not the gear set or clutches.

Slipping is clutches
Shudder is torque convertor
Everything else is in the valve body.


Well, loud crunchy noises could be both.... or all three! :lol:
 
Yeah but I doubt they'd let me take just the valve body from a working trans...but I can try
and that would make shipping much cheaper
 
A shutter at highway speeds is kind of a common thing on M8s... Try a trans flush or adding a bottle of friction modifier to the trans fluid. I have done both for the same concern with the same results. As long as the car is still pulling, I would freak out just yet. You just might have a lock up converter that is shuddering on engagement.
 
Ya know I have never ever even remotly thought of adding some friction modifier to a slipping trans. Ya know that would prolly help get quite a few more miles off a trans that was on its way out. Sure would make the trans fluid stink like hell though! :lol:

I've been using Lucas transmission treatment in mine for quite a while now. But Mercon V stinks enough already. I doubt an additive would make it much worse.:D
 
I am not talking "treatment" I am talking FRPP rear end Trac Lok friction modifier.
 
Ok so this is exactly what it does it shifts great from 1,2,3and when I get to third andcruise and giveit a little gas it feels like it doesn't know what it wants to do between.3,4 gear so it shutters but will go away whefalln I stomp on it .. and then the other day on the freeway going about 65 it jerked real hard a couple times like it wanted to drop down into a lower gear , felt like I was tapping the brakes hard but went away at lower speeds. Thanks for the help guys this is really appreciated
