Just so you know they did make the AODE For the 4.6 also but you are right 5.0 is a diffrent bolt patternThe electronics are close enough between a 4r70 and an AODE that you can run one instead of the other, but there are 2 problems. First, the AODE isn't as strong and has worse gear ratios. Second, the bell housing bolt pattern is different between a 4.6 and a 5.0, so that trans won't bolt up to your motor.
Make sure there is a port on the tailshaft where you can install the speedometer sensor. Some of the newer transmissions don't have it.can I use a trans from a 2003 town car??? its a 4r70w

i thought that the tc/vic/marquis had a shorter tail shaft, requiring you need a custom driveshaft, and as far as changing the tail shaft and housing EVERYTHING would have to come out

The speedo should just plug right in but if you get a 97 or newer tranny the MLPS will be diffrent. It has a square plug and the early ones have a more rounded one.
Just undo the two bolts and swap your older one on to the new trans. Two minutes tops. It wouled be better if you got a new one though because they're comon to fail.
Just order one from the same year as your car. you can use the newer one but it takes more work messing with repining the harness. It's just easyer to swap them.
There is also a plug on the pass side but that one will plug right up.
if my radio has a short would it cause this problem?and my battery sparks when I connect the cables and then the fuse gets blownThe insulation of a wire on that circuit may have worn away, allowing it to short out.
It's also possible that a wire has been pulled loose from a connection and has shorted out that way.
Look along there areas where there are parts that get moved, and cause friction or jarring near the wires on that circuit.
These are all just guesses, but blown fuses means too much power is trying to go through at once, and that's usually caused by a short.
Electrical problems are time consuming to hunt down.
Good luck.
