my 93 mark VIII now goes in drive when I shift into reverse could my mlps just be bad and not the trans itself,what does this part do??I have a new trans to put in but maybe its not bad cause it dose go as fast as I want on the highway

Your linkage is messed up, just disconect the cable from the tranny and put the shifter in park. Now make sure that lever is all the way fwd and bolt it back up. not to hard just might have to play with it a bit. Did you disconect any thing inside the valve body?
