is the aode the same as a 4R70W,cause my friend wants to sell me a aode out of a 1994 5.0 mustang,he said it will work for my 93 mark VIII,is this true??

anybody know if I can use a transmission from a 1994 mustang in my 1993 mark VIII

First I think that a 94 Mustang Is the First year mustang to have 4R70W if it is an AODE The gear ratios are diffrent first gear 2.4 vs 2.84 in the 4R70W
and so on
Even If It is 4R70W don't use it. You should get a 98 or newer they are a better tranny but if you get a verry good deal on an older one you can upgrade it to be the same as a newer one.
All the up grades plus shift kit can be had at http://www.becontrols.com/index.htm

The electronics are close enough between a 4r70 and an AODE that you can run one instead of the other, but there are 2 problems. First, the AODE isn't as strong and has worse gear ratios. Second, the bell housing bolt pattern is different between a 4.6 and a 5.0, so that trans won't bolt up to your motor.

Just so you know they did make the AODE For the 4.6 also but you are right 5.0 is a diffrent bolt pattern

So what your saying is that you can put an aod on a Mark, but it just won't bolt in place cause the bellhousign doesnt match?

An AODE from another Modular 4.6 will bolt up to the Mark VIII, but why would you want to?

It won't take off as hard as the 4R70W in first gear, and it will be more likely to fail.

Should be fine. I believe you'll just need to do some minor repining.

can I use a trans from a 2003 town car??? its a 4r70w
Make sure there is a port on the tailshaft where you can install the speedometer sensor. Some of the newer transmissions don't have it.

it looks

i thought that the tc/vic/marquis had a shorter tail shaft, requiring you need a custom driveshaft, and as far as changing the tail shaft and housing EVERYTHING would have to come out

I think it is the CV P71/P72 and TC that have the longer tail shaft

that trans is out of a 03 town car with a 4.6 and has the hole for the speedo its just pluged for now cause they use the pc to calibrate the spd, does that look like the right trans for my 93 mark and does it have the 284 first gear also????

yes it is a 2.84 first gear but make shure that the tail shaft is the same length
and on a diffrent note
somone correct me if I am wrong but in 04 did they change the tranny to the 4R75W

The 4R75W was added in 04 to only the Police Interceptor Vics, I think. Where's Dereck when you need him lol...

ok what about the conections, will the plugs all work or will I have to do some work to them???

The speedo should just plug right in but if you get a 97 or newer tranny the MLPS will be diffrent. It has a square plug and the early ones have a more rounded one.

Just undo the two bolts and swap your older one on to the new trans. Two minutes tops. It wouled be better if you got a new one though because they're comon to fail.

Just order one from the same year as your car. you can use the newer one but it takes more work messing with repining the harness. It's just easyer to swap them.

There is also a plug on the pass side but that one will plug right up.

Yes I'm aware of that. I have a 94 crown vic that has a 4.6 and AODE too! I just said that because he specified that he can get one out of a 5.0 mustang.

thank you

can you tell me why I am blowing my #11 fuse for the brake shifter release and singnals and emerg.flashers,,anybody

The insulation of a wire on that circuit may have worn away, allowing it to short out.

It's also possible that a wire has been pulled loose from a connection and has shorted out that way.

Look along there areas where there are parts that get moved, and cause friction or jarring near the wires on that circuit.

These are all just guesses, but blown fuses means too much power is trying to go through at once, and that's usually caused by a short.

Electrical problems are time consuming to hunt down.

Good luck.

if my radio has a short would it cause this problem?and my battery sparks when I connect the cables and then the fuse gets blown :(

check the wires at the brake light switch, look up the lever that the pedal is mounted to there is a simple 2 wire switch check those wires out, and as for your radio, try unplugging the radio and see if it still blows the fuse
