top shock mount

i found a post on here about how to remove the back seat to get to the top shock mount, but cant find one about the mount itself. where are they when i take the back seat out ? any pics anywhere ?
 
You can access the nuts that hold the mounts from inside the trunk - pull back the trunk carpet at the sides and you'll see what im talking about.
 
Yeah, pull the carpet, can't miss 'em. Unscrew the nut, pull the junk one off, put new one on, re-nut, push carpet back, done.
 
so just pull the carpet out of the trunk instead of removing the back seat ? am i going to have to have the car jacked up to do this ?
 
you would probably be better off taking the back seat off. getting at it form the trunk is a pain in the ass, especially if your a big guy
 
i go in through the trunk, but i'm 5'6 170lbs so to me its no thing at all. either way will work, go in the trunk or take out the back seat, they'll both get you to the same destination!!
 
did the 96 thunderbird have the same parts ? do i just ask for rear top shock mounts ? or they called something else ?
 
is this what im looking for ? i was expecting to see a plate on top that was broke ??

the tbird doesn't have a upper mount, just a hole and the bushings that come with the shock. cant see your pic but its 2 studs mounting it to the car with another in the center, thats the shock, most remove it the mount and burn out the old rubber from the center and use the tbird shocks with the bushings
 
any pics anywhere to show this ? what did you use to burn it out ? i do need to jack the rear up, take tires off, undo shock from bottom, then take nuts off the top and pull the whole thing out. then your saying burn out the rubber and use t-bird shocks ? what bushings ? i feel like a tard here. lol. i have to see things to understand completely.
 
Usually on EBAY someone is selling the shocks and the adapter mount if you want to see a pic.
Do a search on shock mounts, should pull up the guy that makes them, for more info.
I decided to go with the adaptors after reading about them.

i just looked on ebay but didnt see them for a mark 8. im a machinist so if i could get an idea of what i need and some dimensions i could probably make some
 
You don't need to make anything fancy ro spend a bunch of money...

Pull the ould shocks and upper mounts off the car, take the mount a remove the rubbe from it and reinstall it in the car. Buy rear shocks for a Thunderbird and instal them in your car and your done.
 
jack up the back of your car, pull the wheels off, take the shocks out, get an 18 mm socket and take the nut off the center shock post, remove the old mounts from old shocks, burn the rubber out with a torch or get a fire going in your yard and put them in the fire for an hour, whatever it takes, go to advance auto, buy a set of monroe sensa tracks for 30 ish bucks, take new shocks out of box, use supplied bushings that come with new shocks, place washer on new shock, then one rubber bushing, slide your old mount onto new shock, put second bushing on top of mount, place back in car and slip second washer over the top bushing and install new nut, then put the other 2 nuts back on mount from in the trunk and instal lower bolt, repeat this on other side, done, all in all its a 20 minute job.

YUP... +1 Kid don't pay more because you don't need to...

And chicken... I fit fine in the trunk to access those mounts LOL...

To remove the mounts through the back seat is easy... just pull out the seat cushion then there are 2 bolts for the back...

That's if you don't fit..
 
is burning them out, the ONLY way to get the rubber part out ?
 
you could use a sawzall too all you need is a map gas tank from home depot, or propane, and the gun that screws onto the tank, shouldnt cost more than 20 bucks, you dont need oxy/acetelene torches, anything that makes a decent flame will work, whatever will start the rubber on fire, let it burn, then repaint the shock mounts before you instal them back in the car.
