Tint the tails?

I am getting the stuff for the tails soon. Since you will probably be able to see the boards, I just wanted opinions on whether to tint or not. I at the cross because seeing the boards may look cool and tint always looks good.

To sway the decision, car is Midnight Grey Metallic..
 
I love the look of tinted tails as long as you have something else to compliment it. I tinted my tails after a blacked out my windows and got the black rims so it was a nice touch. Either way I still think it would look good.
 
im thinking of tinting the tails too but not with spray tint. i assume thats what your using correct ?
 
go to jonstintedtails.com I had my car done by him and couldnt be happier! The tint did not fade and it was glossy the the paint. the VHT niteshades is garbage. Ive used it it faded quickly and wasnt very glossy
 
Am I the only one that doesn't understand the OP?

I will admit that jonstintedtails does a great job. VHT niteshade is not garbage though, you just have to know what you are doing. I tinted mine about 2 years ago using it and it still looks the same today than it did when I first sprayed it. No fading and shines hard. You do need to put a couple layers of clear coat to make it shine though, but the clear coat will protect it anyways.

FastLS- I blacked out my front corner markers too at the same time. Now I just want to get another set of headlights, with the grey sealant, and black out the headlights that I have now. With the new ones I want to split them and color match the inside and black out the orange marker. Then I will have 2 different looking sets of headlights that I can change out when I want to.
 
Some guy already tried tinting gen1 tails by dying them. They did not turn out well.

Ok then.. I guess I should have looked all the way through the thread.. :D
I switched the copperclad boards to a more clear color so it shouldn't really "show through" like the other green ones. We'll see how it goes..

i read a post here a week ago about a guy that tinted his tails and then a time later had the plastic melt.
 
someone said it fails to vent the heat once the plastic is altered and it gets hot. i heard the solution was to go LED

Mine have melted as well. The tint I used is a lamin-x film and not paint like andrizzles. It is due to the heat from the bulb inside the housing.
 
Yea. Mine melted and it peeled/cracked the paint where the bulb is.

I think just having film or paint on the gen2 tails holds the heat in more. And it results in the plastic by the bulb to melt.

I am getting mine redone after we get an LED bulb solution.
 
That's quite weird. The Gen 1s melt but they melt the reflector bowl. Were it attaches to the rest of the tail. It's all cracked there.
 
So i'm assuming that means that you just shouldn't tint your taillights on a gen 1?
If they all melt something or crack something, it's just not a good idea?
 
okay. that'd be awesome cause i'm thinking about doing that too but i don't want to mess up my tails.

That's crazy because I have had my tails tinted for years without any problems. No soft spots or anything. I love the look of tinted tails with blacked out windows.
