i want to find out if i can bolt on a super charger from a 3.8 liter thunderbird sc into my 3.0 v6?

there is a mile long list of things that wont work with that. chek out the forum where quick ls just put a superchareger on his ls

yes - we are planning to tackle the V6 3.0L Duratec next - using the same pieces/parts from the 3.8L SC t-bird that I used on my V8. There will be a custom manifold, custom belt routing bracket, custom cooling re-routing, ...etc - but using the M90, inlet/outlet plenums, bypass, ...etc

the tougher stuff is all the little things - hoses, electrical connectors, ...etc

then tuning.... tuning, tuning.

Well, now I'm like a little child.

I can't decide if I have the patients to swap a real manual behind the v8 and use the kit that comes from Quik's development or just find a clean v6 MTX and wait for the second round of development for supercharger for it.

so many pros and cons.

the worry I would have with the V6 MTX is:

- if it is true that Ford didn't put the MTX in the V8 because the trannie could not handle the V8 torque - then putting a power-adder onto the V6 may expose the same weakness.....

that is a valid concern Quik, but since it seems that the automatic in the v6&v8 is the preverbial handgrenade without the pin (my 02 may need the solenoid pack and valve body replaced as we type). I'd rather worry about what I can do to beef up a manual with its gears and sycnros instead of all the automatic stuff.

I mean there have to be some way to make the trans stronger than it was originally delivered.

Otherwise I might as well not even go near the supercharger for either engine since I'll just be replacing transmissions every other year (been there done that with a supercharged Crown vic).

The manual can't handle the torque from the V8, so you'll just gernade the trans if you add too much torque. IIRC, the automatic can handle about 325 hp/tq before you find it in little pieces behind your car. The manual, IIRC, is good to about 250 hp/tq.

yeah I know that the factory MTX cannot handle the torque of the V8 and it might not be able to handle the torque of a supercharger on the v6.

If I purchase a nice v8, I intend to convert it to some manual transmission.
I don't know exactly what, but I don't have a v8 in the family just yet either.

As for the V6, well if it comes to the MTX or the Supercharger, I take the MTX, because I would rather be able to control what power I have, then hope that some computer chip can learn how to adapt running with more power before the trans expires again.

wouldn't a turbo or centrifical s/c be easier to use then a root blower? I would think there would be much less modification to be done.

(IMHO) A turbo would require much more fad work to get to both the intake and exhaust. A centrifuge SC would still require the belt routing and then re-working the intake, the only place I could see to put it was where the stock airbox was....

There is just no room under the hood.

The custom manifold and roots SC fit exactly in place of the stock intake manifold - so the room issue worked itself out.

You may not be able to use the factory V6 manual tranny behind the V8, but there are LOTS of trannys out there....including factory Ford pieces....that will handle the power of a supercharged LS8. You may have to do some fabrication and finding a bellhousing may be a bitch, but if you get past that you will have a very reliable transmission. And now that McCloud has come out with some very innovative swap parts, it's easier than ever. They even have a way to relocate the shifter to the precise location you need. Good stuff.

That was exactly what I was talking about, now can we get back to original intent of this thread, info on supercharging or turbo charging the LS.
