Ok so this problem only happens when its very cold outside. When its around 25 degrees and colder. When I first start the car, the car will start and just die. Originally I thought it was a fuel issue because I would around 1/8 of gas left. But yesterday when I went out it was 20deg out and I had 1/2 tank of gas. Once the car is warmed up the problem goes away. If I do not hold my foot on the gas the car just dies. I am thinking bad vaccum leak?

+1 on teh IAC. Mine does not like the cold eaither and that IAC can be heard chattering away and sometimes gets stuck for a split second at the end of its stroke. I really need to stop being so lazy and get a new one.

Since I have a gen1 how hard is it to change the iac. Or is it best if I should let my mechanic do it?

lol, you ain't gonna like changing that at all. It's one of the hardest little parts on a Gen 1 to change but I'm about 95% positive that it will fix your problem. Go ahead and put on a new TPS also and be done with it. Removing the cowl and hood makes the IAC much easier. Either way, it's no fun.
