New Detailing Supplies w/ Photoshoot (LOTS of pics)

Well I sold some of the Mothers and Meguiar's off-the-shelf stuff I had (read: crap), and purchased some new supplies.

First off, a multi-purpose foam gun by Gilmour, for a whooping $6.
I couldn't pass up on that. For the Canadians, I got it at FactoryDirect. Check it out, the sale is still on! It's not too bad either.

As for the supplies;

Gtechniq P1 w/ polishing pad. There's a video of this in action on YouTube. It seems to do an adequate job by hand. I was too cheap to buy a PC DA buffer, and I don't mind putting some elbow grease into it.

Duragloss AW

303 for the interior (the bigger sizes were sold out)

DP Wheel Glaze to keep the brake dust off.

That's all. I plan to detail her up this friday (4 day long weekend), hopefully will get some pics up.

Looks like a nice supply. I never know what to buy or where to get what I need. Paint could use some help... some swirl marks, minor scratches (a few have been touched up), and it's only been clayed once. I don't have a polisher so it will be elbow grease all the way.

Besides the obvious wash, dry, clay, and wax what else would you recommend for me?

How about a pic of that keyboard/mouse combo... Looks to be a nice setup you have going there.

Nice stuff! Fwiw, gtechniq>zaino IMO. I'm a huge optimum and duragloss fan too. Poliseal is amazing when combined with a da polisher and a white lake country pad.

Nate, pm me what you need advice on. I know a little bit about this detailing stuff...

pretty sure that is the logitech kit that my buddie has. its really nice. Logitech all the way when i comes to comp. peripherals.

I picked up a bottle on sale for $5 the other day and havent had a chance to use it yet just cleaned a small area and seemed to work well.

Nice products. My only question is how well that foam gun will work with a small reservoir. With the bathe I use I dilute it so it takes up a decent amount of volume in my Gilmour. Definitely let us know how well it works. It's a steal at that price

If it's like wheel wax brand you clean the wheel, apply the product, let haze, and wipe off.

Got up early and got to work today!

Routine: Rinse, wash, dry, clay, wheel detail (Meg's hot tire shine, DP wheel glaze), Stoner's on all glass, PS, AW

It was an OK day for detailing the car outside (maybe a tad cold), but not enough clouds for photos.



Onto the products:

Gilmour $6 Foam Gun:
Easy to use, love the different spray modes. Definitely worth the money (lol). Made washing very easy.

DP Wheel Glaze:
Easy to work with (HUGE PITA on the double 7-spokers), easy to buff off, makes the wheels shine even though the camera didn't pick it up - there was a difference.

Optimum Poli-Seal:
Apply, haze, buff off. Easy to work with, but next time I'll apply it with a MF pad rather than a foam applicator. Easy to buff off, makes the shine a deeper tone. Hope it's as durable.

Duragloss Aquawax (AW):
Holy fcuk! Magic in a bottle. Mist the panel w/ water, apply AW, wipe, flip the MF over, dry, done. It smells great and looks spectacular. Can't go wrong, esp. at $8/bottle!

The P1 polish can be used by hand, and people have reported very good results with it. I will give it a shot on my side mirrors tomorrow.

The keyboard is a Logitech G15 v2, and mouse is Logitech G5 v2. Solid stuff.

Thanks. They were too expensive, IMHO. The longer version costs even more.

No pics, it's not as good as the "real" Gilmour foam guns. It doesn't foam, just sprays soapy water that has some foam in it. Not that I mind.

He swapped his black surround for a chrome one lol. The chrome is starting to look out of place on mine :shifty:

Foam GUN

Saw this tonight and figured some may find this interesting. It is a heck of a lot more expensive than the Gilmour foaming solution (at $120) and it requires the use of a high pressure washer (which I am sure most detailers do not recommend). Still, interesting:

Yep. Foam cannons are awesome. A lot of detailer friends of mine use them. I haven't pulled the trigger yet. I need to replace my pw first.

Although I don't have a desire to buy a cannon right now. I talked my dad into buying one last summer. If I wanna use it, I just drive over to his place

Most detailers use high pressure washers. Even the cheapo karcher one at walmart is decent.
