Does anyone have a picture of the steering shaft mod installed with cobra manifolds?
I've searched and couldn't find one with the parts installed on the vehicle.
From my understanding -
When installing the FR joint to replace the stock rag joint for improved steering feel, longevity, and improved header clearance sometimes done when installing kooks...you retain the stock steering shaft, add the 2" machined nub, and the FR joint @ the rack..so you are eliminating the stock "rag joint" and replacing with a FR unit.
Cobra Manifolds/shorty headers - when installing the cobra manifolds you use the top half the of the steering shaft, disregarding the lower half (except the sleeve portion) followed by the FR joint. At this point you are now changing the location of the rag joint and changing the geometry of the shaft. You then use a piece of splined shaft and a coupler @ the rack to complete the setup to the rack.
Someone please Correct me if im wrong but I believe thats correct from my reading.
Now the question I have is can you run the kooks headers with the steering shaft modified as explained for the cobra manifolds or does this put the joint right where the kooks sit? Maybe its a stupid question but I cant seem to find a picture to visualize.
A few reasons I ask, FR only sells the DD bar in 18" length when you only need about 2" for the kooks install that you need to cut, drill, etc. and if I were to install cobra manifolds now but want run kooks later, or vice versa, youd only have to modify the steering shaft once and I plan on welding the joint. Might have been covered before just couldnt find any information or good final installation pictures with the cobras. Thanks in advance
