Again, working on someone else's northern '98.

I wish that Ford would have used anti-sieze during assembly. Without it, steel bolts and aluminum can become corroded, and the result is pulled threads, and bolts that are very difficult to remove.

I'll have to chase all of the threads, on both the bolts and the bell housing now. I will be using anti-sieze on every bolt that I put back in to aluminum.

FYI, The same situation applies to the transmission mounting bolts. All of the bolts and the threaded holes in the back of the block will need to be chased.

god i was just there i cringe seeing the pics. although my car is a california car, that job sucks no matter where the car is from, its just way worse if its from the north. i had a hell of a time getting my starter bolts out with the damn kooks headers wow did it blow!

I don't know where alot of you guys are from but thats just the way all stuff is around here. If you don't own torch set, up north your screwed.

I've been relatively lucky. My car lived a brief stint in Michigan but then lived the rest of its life in and out of a garage in Mid Ohio. Most of the bolts on mine *so far* haven't given me too much trouble. I have a feeling I will have issues with my manifold studs though the necxt time I take off my exhaust

I'm not sure I have any bolts left in my '93 that I haven't already removed at one time or another. :p

Amazingly with both my Marks being NJ cars I never had a problem with bolts being stuck to the point of taking threads with them.

Although my 96' did have a replacement starter and the hard bolt to get to wasn't put in when reinstalled

My car was like that... Pulled the threads on 3 trans bolts and broke off one of the starter bolts in the trans. Had to chase all the threads and get some new bolts.

Yuck. This thread is making me apprehensive about taking my trans out.

Edit: wait... I forgot, my trans was replaced 3 years ago.... derr... man... im out of it today

Don’t forget the tab on the upper left side of the bell housing, and careful with those dowel pins make sure there smooth, pretty sure that is how I phucked mine up. Oddly enough all my bolts weren’t rusted...except the exhaust. But that is all stainless steel hardware now. What converter are you going with?

That tab isn't an issue on the Gen 2's, the EGR tube goes around it, but thanks.

A BOC Stage 1, 10" 3,600 stall.

As a reminder, this is not my car.
