Passenger side front brake won't stop squeaking. It squeaks will driving but not while applying the brakes. I installed a new rotor, caliper and pads. Any other ideas?

Wear indicator may have been tweeked.

I bent the dust shield back and made sure it wasn't touching anything. Would the bearing stop squeaking once the brakes were applied like mine is doing? Also, I thought I read somewhere the bearings were sealed for life. Is that true or can they be greased or does the hub have to be replaced?

I just threw those out as some other options. ;)

The hubs are sealed, if they go bad, the entire hub assembly would have to be replaced.

If the noise stops when you apply the brakes, it's likely that the pads are contacting the rotors, and not fully retracting when you release the brakes. Make sure that the slider pins are well greased, and the calipers move freely.

Hanging piston in the caliper or didnt grease the pins and they are binding or you have a bad wheel bearing.

What is that?

The wear indicator is a little metal clip attached to the pad and hanging off the edge of the pad. It is positioned such that when the pad material wears down so much, it will make contact with the rotor and make a squeeling sound. This will happen well before the rivets make contact and ruin your rotors.

I've tried two sets of new pads. Both were different brands. I dunno. I guess I'll just have to drive it until something gives so I know what the problem is. They don't squeak when I have the front jacked up and spin the wheel, only when driving. Very annoying.

I would have to go with Laser on this one. Check for play in the wheel. There should be none. If you hear what sounds like road noise coming from that side, I would be suspect.

Check the wear indicator and pull it away from the plane of the pad's friction surface.

You don't hear it when the car is jacked up? Could be the front u joint, my squeaking sound was.

Did you use a little bit of that anti-squeek stuff on the BACK of the pads? That's what it's for & it looks like this:

I also have this squeaking issue. It goes away when I hit the brakes, even lightly. I know the LF hub needs to be replaced, but I replaced them a while ago, (with crap parts) and it was doing it then too. I have new pads and rotors all around as well. I do regular brake services (pulling each caliper off its bracket, cleaning and re-greasing the slides and pins) so I would have to think maybe it would be the hub in my case? Any input there?

As for your car, are their any other symptoms? Like mentioned earlier, is there a loud hum noise, or road noise, coming from the front end at higher speeds? Jack up the front end, and grab the tire at 12 & 6 o clock positions, and apply pressure to the top, then the bottom. There should be no play there.

Sorry to hijack the thread but I have a odd issue also. I installed new rotors and pads and when i'm going reverse and turn to the right there is a grinding noise. Only happens in reverse and it vibrates the car. I pulled it all off and installed them again and it didn't help at all. Any suggestions?

I used the disc brake quiet on the back of the pads and slide guide on the pad guides and caliper pins/bolts. There is no play from side to side or up and down with the wheel when jacked up. Also I do not get any road noise. Just a squeaking sound until I hit the brakes.

Could be several things, crystallization on pads/rotors, heat spots, semi met pads, bed-in process wasn't done properly...ect ect...

PICS HELP ...why do we never get pics anymoar :(

No crystallization or heat spots. I changed the pads, caliper, and rotor all at the same time because of the squeaking. Before that I turned the old rotor and replaced the pads. They are semi metallic pads. Sorry no pics but I only have a limited amount of data per month because I live in the country and 3G is the only high speed internet available. Also, I'm lazy when it comes to pics. It's annoying as they don't always squeak. It just seems like they always do when I'm around people. Lightly pressing the brakes always stops the squeaking though.
