speakers under dash in console

i have seen some lses that have speakers on either side of the console under the dash like in the kick panels but not by the doors in the console area, what years have those and how can i get my hands on some thanks
 
my o3 ls has two by the console at the knees and at the door i might be wrong but 03 and up

is this what your talking about ? my 2001 V8 sport has it..idk how u can get them on yours
 
My 01 has them.....I'm not sure but might have something to do with the Alpine system.
 
yea that is what im talking about thanks guys for the input mine is an 04 but i dont have the alpine sound so maybe that is why i need to pick these up somewhere
 
IIRC arent those the systems with some kind of common problems?

Regardless I think it is a stupid spot for a speaker. My buddy had something like that on his RX-7. It had the BOSE acoustic wave system and those type of speakers both on the console like that and the door and when he would get on and off the clutch and gas the stereo sounded like ass!
 
I have them in my 03 with Alpine 6cd. I don't know what the problem with the system would be though? Mines works and sounds great. I'm not sure how effective those speakers are at knee level though.
 
they are part of the audiophile system (the premier sound system). They are attached to a seperate DSP (digital signal processing) amp that is designed to give more 'space' to the sound - meaning they act in a delay (slight echo) and the user can choose how pronounce the effect is by selecting it on the DSP (dance hall, jazz, church, ...etc)

you cannot simply add more speakers to a standard headunit.

Has anyone here replaced those speakers? Do the grill covers come off? I'm thinking the entire center console needs to be removed to get to them, as I wasn't able to get the covers off. I didn't want to butcher them, so I decided to stop trying and ask.

I swapped in some Fosgate Rockford FRC3203 - 3.5" Punch 2-way console speakers - barely fit....
 
I would just install new speakers somewhere else. Im telling you, especially if you upgrade, you will be disappointed.

remember their purpose - they are not truely an additional set of speakers - if you put your head next to them, it's hard to tell that they are on at times. It is simply for the DSP feature.

Yes, you can. Just as you could put wheels on top of the car. It doesn't mean it would work right.
Those center speakers barely add anything to the experience even with the correct headunit. With the wrong headunit (without any center channel output) they will just distort the stereo image. Instead of improving things, they will make the sound worse, but do as you please.
Why do you think you need them?

Thats why upgrading them would be of no purpose. I understand what you mean, replacing them would be reasonable but upgrading the sound would just be dumb IMO.

but getting some additional speakers, tweeters, an amp, and a few subs would still assist in a crisp and clear cinema-like sound....
 
My hearing isn't good enough to know the difference. The base stock system is just perfect for me.

how can i tell if i have a sub? did some come from the factory with one? i had alero that had one but you could really feel it.
 
yeah, i'm pretty sure i saw an amp while fiddling in my trunk.its like right under the back glass in the center
