single vs. dual exhaust

i am in the planing stages of doing an exhuast system on the mark. i have a set of 03 cobra stock manis, but was wondering about the rest of the system.

is there a reason everyone goes dual instead of a bigger single. for example a y-pipe with 2 1/2 inlets and a 3 inch outlet to a 3inch exhaust with a single muffler? i want a decent sound, but not too loud, i also plan to have no cats at all.

as far as benificial, the sound is very different. also you have a few more options doing x/h pipes also the dual rear exits look cleaner. If youre thinking big power, think of it like this. Dual 2.5" x2 is 5" of exhaust you can flow through. single is only 3".

I prefer the dual setup. Obviously stock the lsc have dual and net 10hp more.

Check on the setup i have, It sounds so good an it was relatively cheap!. i got the muffler from summit racing. check out my sig.

one thing that looks good about a single to me is that i already have some bends around the house, a 3 inch flowmaster 40, and i could easily build the exhaust myself in the driveway with a saw zaw and my mig welder. but dual is going to cost double and take double the effort and time. as for the look of the rear exit, you could just use a y-pipe in the rear like stock in the rear.

That math doesn't work for exhaust flow bud. 4 feet past the manifold, the exhaust is alot cooler and you're gaining nothing having dual 2.5" pipes.

Looks ? it's all about doing it right. Check out this 2x2.5" into 3" single. It actually takes off from 03 cobra manifolds, no cats.

The setup is entirely drone free, and sounds like a c5 on steroids. Now that's a $800 actually worth the money.

now thats what i am talking about. thanks man. what kind of mufflers in the rear? and do you have any sound clips by chance?

Itr's all magnaflow. The rear ones are 5x8x18.

No soundclips, as I've sold the car since. But it was a nice combo paired with the eaton whine.

edit: I actually found few clips, but they're not very good quality nor let you hear it.

Thats an interesting set up. If its the case that a 2 into 1 system is better overall, then one could always just add a fake tip for a true dual look. Plus, a single pipe would be easier to exhaust wrap for heat retention.

Personally I prefer the true duals, if it aint broke dont try to fix it. Just my .02

As long as we are talking about exhaust, why are exhaust systems not coated? Sure, a stainless may last a long time. But one the one thing that often fails on cars? The exhaust. Why are they not coated with ceramic paints or anything that would stop rust?

Cost? Plus the fact that they can also rot from the inside out.

As far as additional coating, i was reading up on exhaust wraps which can then be coated with a silicon spray to prevent water being soaked up and held to the metal surface.

When I got my exhaust done, the guy sprayed it with exhaust paint after he finished. I thought this was a nice touch. Even if it just ends up baking off or whatever, it was certainly thoughtful.

well i have a flowmaster 40 laying around. i might try and put the near the front and see how that sounds, and could put another muffler at the end if its too loud
