Silver 06LSE - What Do You Think?

Dude it seems like you mixed up your lists lol.

Either way I wouldn't be so crucial of a used car.

1 - The keypad fading is a matter of respraying it...

2 - Those seat scuffs are nothing, I bought mine with the passenger side seat-back completely broken off.

3 - My trunk top cover was coming off just like that, I just re-screwed it in... Like 2 min job. The back part against the seats has a little plastic tab on it that slides up into the metal flap. The front part with the ripped carpet can just be re-screwed.

Honestly I wouldn't be so picky. I would much rather be more intolerable with the front bumper parking curb rash than all the other things in (1)

Its plastic, you can always make plastic look good. Use some armor all.
Is Armorall advisable though? Think some people were claiming that it made plastic crack when exposed to sunlight. Would something like Meguiars Natural Shine, 303 Aerospace Protectant or DP interior cleaner be better?

Also not being that picky about the car. Having detailed pics of every last little flaw (but not being particular about it - just letting the salesman know that you're aware of it) is a great negotiation tool :p

If it was me I'd be thinking lots of wear or abuse for $24k miles. As far as the rust on the floor that's what they tell you to look out for on flood damaged cars.

How much did it cost you to fix that?

Anyone with suggestions on how to fix that short of a new bumper?

I ghetto fixed it with L-brackets. The previous owner said the dealer wanted $200+ to fix it.

Looks better than the black car you posted. The trunk liner is an easy fix, the keypad looks like you need to use some back to black or something like that on it, and the seatbacks look like they're just dirty, could be the pics. The curb rash on the bottom of the bumper isn't that bad, but maybe they can sand it down and respray it? My seats looked like that when I bought mine, granted it was an 01, but I think the factory leather is going to do that.

Well there is no LSE in 06. A 06 is pretty much a LSE, they utilized the body style for the last run.

I agree with others, its better than the black one but I would be worried about that rust.

Heh, been skulking around this board to know that. Meant LSE as shorthand for LS w/elite package.

The rust is very shallow. It wouldn't be ideal but couldn't you use rust converter and some duplicolor on it?

Well the point behind us taking note to the rust is that it could possibly have been in a flood as mentioned. So,...... what else do you think could be wrong electronically?

Gotcha. Car is clean as far as rust goes (looked over the underbody and body very carefully, took off the wheels, etc.).

Electronically? Don't think anything is wrong with any of the doo-dads (electrochromic side+rear mirrors, nav/audio, e-brake, dash, steering wheel controls / clockspring, parking sensor, burnt out bulbs, HIDs, battery checks out good ~ 625 / 650 CCA, etc.)

I use MOTHERS Back-to-Black on all black plastic and rubber other than tiers, works great, apply twice a year.

there are drainage issues, sometimes due to the tailight, which causes the spare tire well to fill up.

why cant you tolerate something that would be a simple fix, you could reuse the clips where the carpet is ripped, just pop out the clip and pop it back on with the carpet back in place, and the plastic, thats just needs some mequiars detailing vinyl/plastic spray, and the keypad, use the tire wet shine spray

you need to stop comparing a used car to a new car. If something is not right, expect the seller to adjust the price. the best value in a used car is the one that needs a little TLC and the price reflects that need. I am concerned that you continue to need the forum to evaluate potential cars, have some faith in yourself.

haha, i know, and once you buy it your STUCK with it, haha so know what your getting yourself into, but i only see some minor "tlc" problems

The scraped bumper would bother me other then that it isn't that bad. If it isn't really into the black plastic then it can be sanded and painted. If it is a true LSE(remember all 06s had the LSE style front bumper) then I wouldn't pass on it because of any of these minor issues.

Deal is done. Turns out that they didn't do a good initial job of detailing the car - all shallow scratches (more like marks really - can't be filled in with your fingernail) were buffed out, keypad has been cleaned (you guys hit the nail on the head - wax deposits), back of the seats look like new and they fixed the hanging trunk liner.

Spare well rust spots are fixable for $65 and the lower front bumper for $250. Dealer offered a $500 price reduction to fix those.
So $18.3k out the door including TTL and doc fees with 24k on the clock and all options, full tank of gas and $50 gas card. 7/60/$0 Ford ESP would be ~$1600.

Happy with the deal and I didn't have to travel far (car was in Des Moines ~27 miles away).

Many thanks to all for the advice, opinions and replies! It's great to be back in an LS again :D
