Tried a search and couldn't seem to pinpoint what is going wrong with my 98'? Something similar happened to my 96' but I found some junk in the latch and then it would work fine again.

My 98' will let you latch the belt but then at will it just releases it  If you yank on it it's holding and if you push it down it stays holding. Then you will be driving and in a few hundred feet it will just release

WTF, I wanna video it so I can put it up on YouTube cause this is pissing me off as I don't want to have to go buy one!

Anybody have this problem or what?

I'm starting to think I'm the only one with a seat belt that just decides to come undone

Wonder what the Lincoln dealer will say about it by me?

I'd try spraying some lube in there and working the belt clip in and out. Failing that, replace, as I doubt it is a serviceable part.

You may not feel like replacing it now, however, consider yourself flying through the windshield after an accident because you were to cheap to just replace it... I'm a cheap ass, however a seat belt is not something I'm gonna screw around with and risk it getting me killed.

I have been hit by a car dragged under it and stopped it when my body stopped the car from moving forward. Then the wonderful Catalytic Converter burned a nice 1/8 inch deep into my chest so I only have half a nipple left on one side. So getting into an accident in the Mark with airbags is all Gravy to me.

I'm pissed that such a simple piece on this car has failed and I don't want to pay some stupid amount of money for a new one when it should have a lifetime warranty on a piece like that! I know where there are 2 or 3 Gen 2's in a scrap yard by me but I don't know what they will think about selling a belt latch outta one?

Nice I squirted some WD40 down in it to see if it would help and NOT! Now it releases twice as quickly on me

Time to get one out of the junk yard - or steal one if a 'U-pull-it'. :shifty:

Well it seems to be holding today?
Drove a few townships over and then home and I don't remember having to click it so it looks to be working?

Of course I just jinxed myself so it will pop tomorrow then

Are willing to trust your life to that belt? Someone has told me in the past when something like this comes up, would you trust it for your wife/mother/daughter to drive? I wouldn't...

Pass seat belt is fine and thats all that matters. I don't Die as my over a year stays in hospitals have proved before so I ain't worried about it.

That is the dumbest :q:q:q:q I have ever heard... Just let some jackass cross the center line on you and through the windshield you go. If it were me, and I for some reason couldn't get another buckle, I would remove the P/s belt and not allow any passengers in that seat till it was fixed. This would be a really :q:q:q:qty I told ya so...

Just replace clearly it has a defect I mean you only click it every time you get in your car

Sometime when I get into my car I'll have to click it 2 or 3 times to get it to latch maybe a sign of things to come but instead of starting a thread and complaining that it's a part that should never fail I'll just locate one and replace it as it only takes minutes to remove seat and replace latch

Yeah what ever you guys think you can stick with in your own cars. I have bent my 69' F100 to the point that the bed ran into the back of the cab with no seatbelt. Wearing my seatbelt in my CRX I met the divider on Rt18 at 60mph and cracked some ribs cause of it :(

In something that could not have a seatbealt AKA my CBR1000 I broke right ankle, knee cap and hip. Then Tailbone, Pelvis, right hip and on up to the T10 and T12 Vertebra. While doing this I broke ribs off at the spine and put the small rib thru my right lung. Then the left wrist, elbow and shoulder along with the clavicle and the left lung than collapsed. This was being under the car to the point that the catalytic converter burned off my left nipple and we wont talk about the amount of road rash you get when your body lifts a car off the ground and stops it in 45 feet!

Once they did a helicopter ride to Robert Wood Johnson I went in to a full staff infection in my blood system along with double pneumonia. Coma for 6 weeks and I was out of the hospital in a lil more than 8 months. So that was just one accident, in other episodes my orbital socket in my skull and cheekbone has been broken along with the jaw on both sides and my nose 4 times now.

I could go on but it just makes me more pissed as hospitals all suck ass big time!

However I just did a run to get lunch and the belt held the entire way there and back so I will say it's fixed at this point...

Yeah if I'm able to find one I will grab it and put it in but according to the Lincoln dealership by me I'm lucky to find any parts for a Mark VIII anymore.

I made this thread as I am appalled that this part would fail! I have had over 60 cars now and this is the first vehicle that a buckle has failed on

Well being a mechanic it's nothing uncommon to see a messed up seatbelt latch

So really your appuled about basically nothing it's a mechanical item...these types of things tend to fail from time to time maybe someone dropped some change or something and someone try to pry it out and damaged it but something like that makes to much sense and it's easier to bitch and moan about quality

Well since I have had the car well over a year now I am doubting anyone tried to pry anything out of it. I was also a Fleet Maintenance Mechanic for Verizon and those guys abuse all the vehicles and I never had to replace a buckle there either.

I mark it up as being a Ford thing and never had it happen to my Pinto or Fairmont. If you think it is a mechanical thing and this should happen to one of the most dangerous parts to have fail that kinda scares the crap outta me

It's not suppose to happen but it's 10yr old car it could have happens before your ownership and now it's just starting to screw off but who am I to say

You would think after all that pain, the last thing you would want is another ambulance ride.

Just fix it/replace it.

If you didn't care, this thread wouldn't exist.

No I care that this company makes a serious safety issue in there product is the thing. That and as I said I have quite a few accidents no using a safety belt and I didn't spend any time in the hospital from them sept for the CBR but that is different completely.
