 I just bought 05 LS, day after i bring it home, it started squeaking. I took it to Midas, they told me i need a new Serpentine belt, with labor $134. Is it worth it or is this something i can do for alot cheaper!! Please let me know if you have done this!! thnx

Isn't your car under warranty still? Why pay for it if it is? Like I stated in your other thread, my belt did the same thing, dealer replaced the belt and pulley under factory warranty....free. What about your 30 day warranty you talked about?

if it has one belt i dont see why you couldnt do it yourself. find the tensioner, look at the diagram and go from there. a 2nd set of hands might be usefull and be prepared to possibly get under the car for the lower pulleys. if youve never done a belt befor, i guess there always time to learn. just dont freak out when its off lol refer to the diagram, if there isnt one draw one first.

if its got a different setup then a normal belt then i guess ur only option is what the guy befor me said.

Its a little difficult. I could literally do my 5.0 mustang in 3 mins. This took me a good while.

I called the dealer, they told me its maintence problem so its not cover under the warrenty!! (isn't that convenient)...so off to the shop i go i guess!! Not a good start to my first Lincoln.

it's not hard. you release the tensioner using a 3/8th breaker bar and just slide it off. on the Gen1s you have to remove the intake tubing, but the Gen2s are more straight forward.

No need to get in the dumps and start boohooing about Lincoln. Replacing the serpentine belt is routine maintenance in a vehicle, just like changing the oil.

I'm pretty sure on the Gen 2 he's going to have to remove the intake tube. Unless they changed something from 03 to 05.

You access it from the bottom. Drop the bottom splash shield, twist the tensioner out of the way, yank the old belt off and slap the new one on. ;)

as former sears and goodyear mechanic, firsthand - - serpentine belt replacements are the BIGGEST ripoff we have going. unless we start charging for tire pressure checks.

If your car s still under the factory warranty...its covered under the lincoln customer care package....as well as all hoses...brakes...wiper blades....shocks and spark plugs. Mine was just replaced along with new pads and rotors all around, new wiper blades and....they even replaced all 4 wheels due to chrome chipping off on the inside!

When you go into the dealership....dont ask them things...tell them things....half the advisors dont know whats covered and whats not....read your manual and all the crap that comes with it so your prepared.

Clean your engine!

You think that's bad? Here's mine right now. I haven't even had the vehicle a year yet. The previous owner didn't clean it at all I don't think. It's the first on my lisst for spring cleaning, although I'm still trying to figure out the best way to go about it.

Your car is under warranty, so you took it to Midas? Go back to the dealer, and have them resolve the squeaking problem. After all it could be a pulley, right?

No...the guys at Midas chked the pulley and everthing and its the belt that is making the sqeaking sound

You need to be assertive, stop letting the dealer tell you what you need and don't need. Lincoln was going to replace my belt under warranty regardless if it was covered or not. You just bought the car, take it back, tell them you are unhappy and will return the car if the problem is not rectified, its that simple.

Valvoline too, cost $80. Belt only cost $9-$15 and if they dont stock it, they go to pepboys for it and thats $15-$30. So, $10 for the part 10 mins of labor to pay the technician doing the work, there in about $15? $60 profit... I should open my own brakes, belts, and oil shop.

You were handed a line of bull. If your car is within the 4-year/50K mile range, you qualify for the bumper to bumper warranty, which should cover this. FWIW, my 2006 LS had a squeaky belt. I took it in to the dealer, and it was replaced under warranty with no cost to me. Be assertive about this... if they say its not covered, ask them to justify it.
