well im looking to really tear apart my car and do some work to it in the coming weeks, and i wondered what books you guys use for reference and info(unless you can take apart marks and put them back together blindfolded). is there a chiltons, or do you use shop manuals or what?

Shop manual, and I like to visit the wrecking yard to see how things go together.

There are the Helms(Lincoln Shop Manuals) on Ebay on CD or DVD format that are good because you can print out the page you want and take it with you so you don't destroy (dirty fingers) your printed manual. I personally have both the CD and the printed shop manual.

Another vote for the factory Helms manuals. I've yet to see a Chilton or Hanes manual worth the paper it's printed on.

I also have both.

Keep your eyes peeled on Ebay and you'll find some great deals on factory shop manuals. I think I got my complete set of 4 manuals for around $60.

I bought factory service manuals off ebay, but a lot of times I just use my accumulated knowledge of mechanics....

+25 on the Ford shop manual... I've got both for the Mark VIII's. (electrical and general?)

As do I...

The Chevy dealership I work at also recently got an AllData subscription, so I've been using that more often then my manuals.
