Hey guys.

On my 94, I am having a problem with the steering. While at highway speed, I am getting WAY too much assist from the steering pump. I have replaced the Rack, Pump (with a brand new Cobra unit with no variable orifice), and the lines.

It is so bad that if I put more than my arms weight on one spoke of the wheel the car will dart to that side. It seriously gets VERY touchy.

Any thoughts on what to look at?

Another thing to try might be putting the caster as far + as it can (+6.5), that will make the steering a bit heavier (it will follow the crown of the road to more mind you)...

you might have to install an orfice to cut down on the high pressure side also check the manual for alightment with the coils lowering it might have affeceted the caster. dad

Of course you will have full assist, you installed a pump that does not have a control orifice to restrict flow at higher speeds.

But I bet, like others said, your alignment is off too.

I have an Aviator pump so no variable assist. But my Mark is not that touchy at stock or lowered heights.

Sounds to me like you need a new power steering resivor bracket. I just happen to have one. How convenient. :)

Hrm............I assumed that the Cobra pump would reduce steering assist, but I may need to look into the way they actually work now.

Alignment is going to be done very shortly. I have a set of 17"'s to install along with my Cobra brake package, and will NEED to be aligned after that.

Thanks guys.

PS Chris,

I'm gonna have dad run up to pick up those parts before he leaves for Colorado with the 96 in tow.
