Saw Fonzie's video on the true metallic dip used to refinish wheels to a stock oem look. I ordered a can of aluminium and the glossifier to experiment. This is my first time dipping a wheel so this was just a learning experience for me. Two of my wheels are in bad shape, the PO probably scrapped a curb really bad. 20130614_130812.jpg20130614_130803.jpg20130614_130809.jpg

Anyway, used the dipping spray to clean the wheel. Used paper towel instead of painters tape because I accidently bought blue duct tape at the store:Bang 20130614_132226.jpg

Here's the finished product. Just a little bit too dark. Being my first time the results were better than expected, but I need to practice the glossifier. Didn't have the sheen that was in Fonzie's video. Also I accidently bridged a gap between the center cap and wheels, something I have to be careful with next time. 20130614_141117.jpg20130614_141123.jpg20130614_141130.jpg20130614_141137.jpg20130614_141206 (1).jpg But seriously this job is very easy. I wasn't happy with the color, but the results were great. I'm giving anthracite a try now. 20130614_141718.jpg

Does it look like paint or does it look like Alloy when you look at it (if you didn't know it was done)? I may try this if he has gunmetal for my wheels - I bought them with some curb rash on them.

In the areas where I applied it right, it looked like an alloy wheel. Fonzies looked great, I think if I applied the glossifier better it would've looked different. This wheel has a weird finish to it too. The face is a different finish than the inner spokes.

I ordered some anthracite dip the other day. I can't wait!
Example: Anthracite +Glossifier

How durable does the plasti-dip seem to be?

Does it seem easily scratched? Long lasting? Etc etc

I did my lower grille last summer and it made it through the winter with no tares. I'd say very durable.

I have had the eyelids done for over a year. looks like the day I put it on. I also did my window trim, but i scratched it in a couple places scraping ice.

I saw there new colors!!! Very excited to see how it turns out... take pics before and after the gloss please!

I read it start to come off with sun exposure. I think it was the pillars, if you touch it in the summer, some will mark your hands.

I think that was someone that dipped their interior wood grain. It gets soft in extreme heat

I've read it's proven up to 200 degrees fahrenheit. That said I've never seen anyone complain about it melting on a wheel or in the sun. I guess it could matter on the application as well, more coats the stronger.

This was my concern. We have 100+ days here, just had 108 last weekend. Id hope Baking in this type of direct heat would cause the dip get soft and if touched, leave an imprint.

Thinking of doing my wheels. How's it working long term? Clean and wax just like regular paint? Does brake dust deteriorate the paint/coating?

For what its worth, my grille has stood up to numerous power washes and scrubbing to remove bugs.

Never kept mine so I wouldn't know long term. What color you doing? I don't want to stray you away but it takes some practice to get it right. I wouldn't buy a whole wheel kit until you master it.

happened to me many times got tired of it so I just painted my window trim satin black

Thinking of anthracite.

If I'm going to do it again, that's what I would do.

If I were you, I'd be more worried about getting a smooth finish and a nice gloss than long term durability. It seems to be very proven. Like anything, application and prep is everything.

Warm the cans a little for a better spray and smoother finish.
