Does anyone think that the pace setter 96-98 long tubes would fit similar to the Mac headers? I'm considering buying a set and cutting up the drivers side to make it work with the steering along with relocating the egr fitting. I found a pair new for $275 shipped. Just wondering if anyone thinks this is worth it or not. I'd imagine the passenger side would pretty much plug and play like the bbk and Mac headers do on these cars. Are pace setters worth a damn? Or should I hold out for a pair of macs or worse yet wait until tax time and get kooks? I'm not in the market for coated headers since there is a jethot coating location near me with an employee who owes me a favor.

I had pacesetter on my 4runner and it was great till I hit the trails then it broke at the collector and I was 8 hours from home. Not to mention I drove it to where we were wheeling! The second one I had (I bought another one because they are cheap) did the same thing a week after I put it on, I had 2 12in flex pipes on it to deal with the frame flex when the top was off.

Yikes so if I'm reading that right even with flex connections the collectors broke?

Yeah I know the 22re isn't a torque monster but I built it pretty stout. But that should have never broke like they did. I could see a 1000 foot pounds of torque busting a collector but not a 4 banger.

You could get a pair of 03-04 cobra manifolds too. They are good for 600+ hp. They go cheap, I got a set for 67$ shipped.

So are the cobra manifolds a direct swap other than making a new down pipe?

Hmm maybe I will just invest in the kooks. Its going to take a bit of saving though since I have a lot of expensive little odds and ends coming up in my newest mods. Let's just say I'll be running a very short belt for the alt, ac, and crank only and I'll be loosing no comfort doing so. It should shave off a bit of mechanical drag on the engine and decrease my steering effort and increase my cooling system efficiency. I'm very excited about it. :D
