Hey fellas. Ran into this website researching the 2005 lincoln ls v6 I found for $2800 and I'm glad I did because its making my decion a little easier on wether to buy it or not from what I've read.

Car is in pretty good conditions. Cosmetics wise

it has a little over140000. Miles on it

Having a mechanic take a closer look at it this week

I would really appreciate some more expert advice and opinon from you fellas on wether its a bust or what close things the mechmic should take a look at. Thanks!

I guess what I really want to know is if this 05 ls might be reaching the end of its life.. or is it worth taking in?? Because I'm an Impala guy, and except for the tranny and cv joints, I have never had a issue with them. And you guys seem to be faithful to your ls's and it seems the majority of people i see posting still have them under 100k. I cant stop thinking about the future headaches i might have with buying one at 140k, and man do I like to put some miles on my cars lol

Depends on how much extra cash you are willing to spend in the repairs. That deal seems to be good to be true, did you ask if the guy is the original owner? how long he owned and why is he selling at that low price? If you are not the DIY type guy, it will cost you more to maintain this car.

As long as you can get repair parts (unfortunately, this is a big "if"), there's no reason you can't keep it running for a million miles. Being reasonable though, I think it should be practical to keep it going for at least 250K miles, maybe more. If your main interest is to get a car that will go that far with the least amount of expense, the LS is probably not the right answer.

Well I really liked it, if the mechanic gives it the ok I'm going to take it. Even if i only keep it for a year lol. Hopefully it treats me good because I would like to try put some mods in if its worth my while.

The guy is selling it through a dealership. Asking price was $3,500. Sales guy told me he can do $2,800 off rep. Told him if I took it it would be at $2,600 though, said they're negotiable. Supposedly they had the carfax too, but haven't been back to see it yet. I am pretty DIY to the extent of what I know, some electric and some mechanic. But I'm hoping with the machanic taking a look at it, he said he'll plug into the computer, will tell me if it has some major problems

This is a common misunderstanding. There are many problems, some of them major, that OBD-II scans will not indicate.

Hmm, i see. Any tips to point me in the right direction as to what i should look out for when i go back with my mechanic?

I test drove the car for about 15 min. and didn't hear anything out of whack. Didn't really test the 5-speed only drove on D5 and D4. whent up to about 60-65 mph. Didn't try out most of the electronics inside the car, mostly because i didn't know they even existed, but sales guy said they worked

Thanks

Pay close attention to the transmission. Look for delayed and/or harsh engagement of reverse.
Use the electronic parking brake. Make sure that it works and that the yellow service parking brake light doesn't come on.
Verify that the climate control works, heating and cooling. Also make sure it can heat a little on one side while cooling on the other. (The driver's side will be dominate.)
Check the heated and cooled front seats (if this one has that).
Check that all windows go up and down smoothly. Verify the auto up and down on the front windows. Note that the rear windows do not roll all the way down.
Check the seat movement and memory settings. Check the pedal adjustments and memory settings (if this one has memory pedals).
Check the steering wheel up/down and in/out and memory settings.
Check the side mirror movements and memory settings. Check the auto dim rearview mirror.
Check coolant level and condition in the degas bottle.

Do all the normal used car checks.

Get the VIN and put it in the website below. It will tell you what options you do and don't have.

I see, thanks. That helps a lot, a lot of cool features I didn't even think it had! One thing I did notice was the auto did not work on the driver side :/
How big of a deal you think it is $$ wise if let's say some of the memory setting don't work

The auto window may not be a big thing. It may just need to be re-initialized. Alternately, it may be that the regulator is starting to fail, or that it was replaced and the motor was incorrectly indexed.

Any memory settings that don't work will probably be something that you will have to live with, as the sensors aren't normally separately replaced.

ok, thanks a lot joegr. hopefully the mechanic can give me the final ok on the engine, etc. side of it. looking forward to becoming part of the club lol

hope you stay with that car. you will be the second lvc member from Miami well i think there is another guy here but he doesn't log on no more.

I hope so too, now if i can just get the mechanic on the phone so we can go take that final look already! lol

My daughter has over 180K miles on her 2000 V6. The LS is a sporty RWD luxury sedan and the Impala is a FWD appliance. It was also mid-$40K new and a sister to the Jaguar S-Type so available parts may not be cheap!! Repairs aren't too awfully bad for a competent DIYer.

Deffinately inspect the suspension thoroughly (especially the front). Even as a DIY'er... This stuff can rack up a serious amount of $$$ in repairs.

You got that right. It will cost you a fortune for labour costs, if you can`t do the repairs yourself.

There are better deals available with less mileage.
