Here there and everywhere
looks right, lay a small bead of "rite stuff" around the lip of the pan, then place the gaslet on, lay another thin bead on the gasket and torque to spec

If you us "the rite stuff" it will not leak ........ you may never get it back off BUT it will not leak

no it was more or a joke it is real good stuff just be ready to work a little when you take it apart later

Alright, I have never done anything like this having to drop the k-member. So I'm going to try to jack the motor up a few inches, I know it's easier to drop the k-member, but I'll still try it if I cannot get it out that way I find something to hold the motor up and drop the k-member.

Sap is right . . . . that image looks like it is the right one.

Y'all :)

Just to forewarn you, rite stuff is about $15-$20 for the small can
(it's one of those "you get what you pay for" items)

I use it on every seal and gasket, I don't like come-backs

i highly doubt you'll get enough clearance by jacking the motor. just drop the k, with some practice you can have it down in 30 minutes

He's gonna need a motor brace tho, easy to make..I made mine for real cheap, less than $20

1/8 gauge 2x2 steel tube, 2 chains 1ton net 2ft each, 2 bolts with washers and nuts.

Use search, keyword "sapperfires" and look at my 93 progress, there's a pic of it in there

Okay, I read somewhere you need 3 inches I'll give it a try but will drop the K if I have to.

I have some solid metal/steel bars laying around somewhere, they should have no problem holding it, I was also thinking of trying to borrow an engine hoist. But I really don't have a lot of room.

A hoist would work, but thats not a very safe option, a loaded motor is well over 500lbs, if the seal let's go in the lift, you're a flat fooker

Please just brace the motor, remove the alternator and connect the chains to the lower bolt holes

You can plainly see in my pics how it should look...that way you can stay alive to finish

or use a hoise and put a jam bar under the boom so if the ram seal does let go it wont go anywhere. i know it can happen at any time, but my hoist is 8 years old, i have never checked or changed the oil in the ram, and it never dropped once in 8 years, i could litterally hang a motor off it in in a month come back and it would still be in the same spot. if you use a hoist put a bar under the boom to the floor while the engine hangs from the hoist, or make a support bar across the engine bay.

I'll get a bar to hold it, I would have to find a hoist that I could get for a week or so and I doubt anybody will want one tied up for more then a few days.

On the gasket sealer stuff anything cheaper? It's bill week and next week is rent week, so between the gasket and new oil I don't know if I can squeeze anymore out. I thought I had one more week!

HArbor Freight sells a good bar. Fits the MArk's perfect. Get a coupon for 20% off. You can save another 10-15 if it is on sale.

Like I said, you get what you pay for...it's your decision how many times you wanna remove all that crap to stop the leaks

If it held up for a year I'd be happy, by then I plan to do a major overhaul to the entire car. I was looking at permatex high temp black, but I'll see what I can do about getting the stuff you suggested.

Pick up a Chiltons, if you're going to own a car,
You should own the maintenance book for the car as well, if you plan on being the one doing the maintenance
$20 any auto store
