Ok, so I fired up my car after getting it all back together and guess what - no gears!!!!

I hooked the selector lever up to the very first space on the selector piston thing.

Anyone have a diagram of how it SHOULD look hooked up?

no gears sounds like you didn't have enough fluid in the tranny to me as for the selector just manually move the shifter and valve body to understand how they work then it should come to you I cant remember where I put the few I have done

how much fluid did you put back in the car? and did you only drop the pan or did you empty the convertor too when you had everything apart?

I emptied the converter too. I have 10 quarts in it right now. I thought with that much it should still engage. I'll try putting in 2 more.

Thanks for the help so far!

mine took like 13 liters with the converter drained and a deep pan dont know how many quarts that is but it takes alot of fluid to fill it back up again

You likely misaligned the shift valve with the 'rooster tail' shifter.

Drain the fluid and pull the pan to inspect your work.

+1 to what driller and the guys said.
You also need to shift slowly up and down through the gears with your foot on the brake when filling, so the different valves and passages can fill properly too...

The total fluid capacity is 15Q including lines and cooler if you drained the torque converter 10Q should get you going, trans needs 70% fill to engage.
As for the selector it should be on the first notch, its actually the only one it will properly extend and fit in in park.
Was the filter properly seated?
Did you remove the first to second accumulator? if so is it seated properly and the C clip on in the proper location? if not the piston will shift in the bore and fluid pressure will be reduced negating or delaying engagement.

I'm going to try and pull everything this week and see what happened. Maybe I was being impatient with it running. If there anything special I have to do to the TC, or does it fill up by itself?

Oh that's perfect! I think I know where my problem lies...
