Hey all, whatsup?

Recently bought Screw-Rice's Mark from the forums, been stalking the forums awhile and finally took the plunge, excited it's here and I can get out of having a car note and enjoy owning something that's mine again.

So far no new pics that you guys probably haven't seen from Screw, (other than the tire damage the shipper caused, names will be named depending on how they decide to handle it), right now just want to get things buttoned up with the front suspension and the air-bags so I can DD it and not worry so much about the inner Houston streets beating the crap out of it. A few issues so far, shipper left the air-ride on after ignoring instructions to turn it off after loading and the optima battery arrived destroyed and nonchargeable, trac/abs lights are on and weren't before shipping, and there's a nice chopped ring around the right rear tire upper sidewall meeting the tread where the fender wanted to try being a can opener during shipping. Front right strut has intermittent sag overnight, noticed it hissing once, was told it was likely an O-ring since the strut is about two years old. Today had the front right sag, front left sag for a sec, and the right rear do solo off-road lift mode. Thinking of just replacing all of the damn bags at once and being done with it, then installing all the front end parts included with the car to tighten things up.

I never would have imagined buying a car off of a forum, but if anyone ever has an opportunity to do business with Screw I say go for it, can't thank him enough for all of the questions answered and thorough info/videos/pics provided his pre and post buyer assurance, technical support, and post sale shipper screw-up assistance (writing the carrier a letter about how retarded the driver was who picked up the car). Thrilled with the car and the awesome platform he provided that I can now tinker with and hopefully improve. To sum up, A+++++ seller, and all around awesome guy.

Anyways as you probably can tell I tend to ramble, glad to be here, will post pics as renovations begin. MyMark.jpg

cool! good car to pick up.
seemed like it was taken care of, and a long standing member to buy it from as well.

some mark viii guys down in texas as well, and plenty mark viii's in the yards down there. so shouldn't be hard find parts if you are in need of anything.

Know him and concure . hope you get things sortted out on the shipping who was the idoit that transported it i would go after his rear.can't take advice he should learn the hard way. JD

Thanks everyone,

I'm withholding the identity of the suspect pending the results of their "investigation". They are asking for oil change receipts to "analyze" the damage to these "very old tires". Screw is helping me gather evidence from his records to hopefully set them straight.

Should have listened to my gut and not gone with the broker's choice, had no idea the had such small outfit's they sourced to. In my line of work doing LTL shipping brokers negotiate rates with big name carriers, did not realize the vast differences between that and auto transport. Namely that your odds of winning might be better playing dice in a back alley lol. Poney up and hire Tropical Carriers or some other big brand through U-Ship, worth the extra $100. The independent broker I chose was a nice enough guy and a reasonably accessible point of contact, but in the end he has no control over what they do with the shipment or any claims that may follow.

Thanks, this is probably one of the friendliest enthusiast forum's ive seen. I'm in Midtown but i'm sure I'll be reaching out to you guys one of these days. Just ordered new bags all around to get it done and know it's hopefully gonna last, have a buddy who's dad owns a shop so hopefully he can find some time to let me use a lift and lend me a hand on the install. Planning on doing the front end as well. On a side note, Screw replaced the compressor in December, but i' worried about the Houston humidity and the leak it's had so far, think it would be neccesary or prudent to go ahead and replace the compressor dryer with the bags as well?

Don’t worry, we all are equal opportunity offenders :) Welcome to the mark VIII club, so when are you going to buy your next one?

Shoot, when I get a garage? And I get out of the Mazda2 that I idiotically bought last year. (Truth be told i'm already thinking of another car for a toy, an old gen 1 RX-7 or perhaps gen 1-2 MRII for AutoX, been wanting to get into that).

Came into work today and went into the warehouse, the thing was riding pretty on all four corners! No sag this time! No explanation! Still doing bags all around, fronts should be coming from Amazon today or tomorrow, and the rears I ordered from American Air so when those ship i'll be ready to go hopefully.

gen 1-2 MRII for AutoX, been wanting to get into that).

you talking about a mr2? ive also had an addiction to those also, had a 86, a 88 sc, and a 91. the gen2s look sooo much better but the 91 i had handled like crap compared to the first generation. biggest problem with those little cars are parts are very hard to come by. i eventually gave it up and got rid of all my toyota crap i had around

I would think they wouldn't be that bad? Certainly not as bad as a Gen 1 Rx, it seems like it's getting harder and harder to find an unmolested example of either. Tried a Miata and had my heart set on one before the Marks but just could not drive one comfortably, I drove one a few years ago and remember feeling at home, but I guess ive gotten fatter or taller, probably both lol.

i could drive an rx7 ... right into the garage to get rid of that rotary.

I like the mechanical simplicity of a rotary engine, just a cool piece of engineering, plus as far as the 80's wedge sports cars go I think the 1st gen RX-7 still looks sexy and has aged relatively well. Also I have a strange attraction to car's that provide complicated solutions to problems that should have never existed in the first place (Air-Ride) lol. Probably will never happen though... but then that's what led me to a Mark lol.

Welcome to the site! Screw rice is good people. RX7s rock! I would love an 85 GSLSE if my arse wasn't too big for one. I have had 7 RX7s and loved them all with my 93 R1 being way too fun to buy again. I would get soooooooo many tickets. LOL
