I am still digging thru with the search function, but I thought I would post what I am seeing. Glad to hear any input from the regulars.

1993 Mark VIII great condition, 83K miles. Best hot rod I ever rode/drove! Love the performance, still sorting out the little things.
Radio comes and goes, along with the antenna. I am planning to install an aftermarket and go from there.
I had a new mirror cut for the driver side, it worked out well.
Brakes, brake lines, plugs, other little ignition things.

I have fixed several lights, but I have not made a decision on the headlights. I have polished the lenses, but not sure what to do with the bad mirror surface inside.

I have not found replacement headlights anywhere, have been following the thread in this forum. For the short term, it sounds like the best quick and dirty short term is running lights. I will install a pair inside the grill for now - any comments from the pros on this?

Thanks in advance -

Old Fat Guy

headlights are by far the worst thing about these cars. I replaced mine 5 or 6 years ago with new HID's. it cost me $1045.00!! but I can still see the road at night. my car see's limited driving only 3000 miles in the last 4 years, so they still look new and don't have very many hours on the bulbs. good luck and watch e-bay.

I've got a really good condition 93-96 driver's side headlight if you can find a passenger side to go with it.

I would buy post 3 and 4 and then get yourself a 5000K or 6000K HID kit and install it and call it a day. You can buy new housings but you're looking at around $250 each but if you spend that kind of money, make sure to install an HID kit. Halogen bulbs put out too much heat and burn the reflective backing and are a dim yellow color anyway. HID's are much brighter and barely any heat at all.

Check price on new ones. You have to request it but they are the cheapest place to get them.

Oh, Tasca is about 15 minutes away from me..... that is all.

Save yourself trouble and get the 3M kit from advance auto use a good drill and call it a day

Lots of good information in a short period of time.

I have polished lenses on my son's 1997 Intrepid, worked out well. I will start with that.
I will check out the headlights from the posts, also.

I need to post a pic of my ride. It is strictly stock, but it is clean and I think it looks great.

Thanks again -

The polishing that was mentioned here is usually only 95% good for 97-98 housings. I'm pretty sure your reflective chrome is burnt and polishing them won't help that at all. Before you buy any used Gen 1 housings, make sure to get pics, mainly of the low beam area. These guys here selling and telling you they are in good shape is something you can trust.

If you're not afraid, cut your lenses off of the housings and rechrome them with the trim-brite adesive backed metal. 93blue-on-blue (I think) has a SWEET write up on this somewhere. I did it to my first set, and they turned out decent (before I totalled my '93 and then found a MINT set of headlights in the junkyard!!).

Use a good plastic epoxy to put em back together with, and hold em together with some strong rubber bands or something, use a clear silicone to seal any pin holes and prevent moisture. Then, as stated above, get the 5k HID kit from a place like DDM tuning, and do the jumper wire mod to the multifunction switch and you're good to go. Its not like a new car, but its considerably better than it was.

Blue is now Aquabrit and all his pictures in the writeup are gone. :(

Good to know. I took a closer look - my headlights are yellow, but like you said, the chrome is burnt also.

I am assuming that if there was a good way to fix the chrome, someone would have already figured it out.
I will polish the new ones a bit when I get them and go from there.

You can bring yours back to new again with some wet sanding and Plastx. Someone on here has a write up about it and they turn out looking like new again.

I wish that's all it was, but my drivers side assy has water in it, and the chrome backing is starting to come off because of the water. One of the 4 clips on the back of the HID cover is broken off so I'm thinking that's the source of the water. But, the assy is all screwed up because the stupid kid that owned it before me tried to apoxy all around the lens and it looks like ass.

Really??? What the hell... where was I for that one???

That was like one of the best threads on here. And actually the first thread I read from end to end when I first bought my car back in '08...

Keep your eye on these. If you can win one cheap enough, paint bottom to match.

Then there are some Gen 1's for the OP

Hey - I was looking for headlights and just this minute ran across a wrecked 1995 Mk 8 getting scrapped. Interior is OK (whatever that means), headlights/wheels/tires/engine/trans is gone. Leaving for the scrapper Fri PM, 48 hours from right now. It lives a good hours drive from me - is there anything that is so valuable that I should drive 2 hours tomorrow and get?

Depends, does your car need anything?

I really only need a radio and new headlight assemblies. The owner is not sure about the radio and said the headlights were ruined in the wreck.
If I went, I would grab a bunch of stuff and put it on the shelf with my spare Corvair and EEK Daytona parts.
I should probably pass unless I hear about something that is really valuable - I have plenty of stuff sitting around now.
